Hi,

I have my iPhone 3G unlocked using iSmartPhone chip. When I updated this morning to 2.2 I would first get reception, then it would change to saying "No service". It worked perfectly before.
I'm now restoring to 2.1 and hoping it will start working again.

Anyone who has gotten 2.2 and a iSmartPhone chip working, please tell me how or what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

what your doing wrong

It's not so much what you are doing wrong as to what you have done wrong. Essentially you jailbroke your phone with the SIM unlock without getting the software benefits of the jailbreak.

My guess is your phone is garbage - your warranty is void because of that proceedure - so unless you fully jailbreak it - your toast.

Sorry

I have an Iphone 3G locked to Vodafone Portugal but since I am living in the UK I got one of those universal sims so I could use with my O2 sim card here. It worked perfectly until today. I am not getting any service with the O2 card in. But if I put my old card from Vodafone Portugal in the Iphone it works great. My question is. Can i go back to the firmware just before this one? Seems its just now working on this new firmware.

Why would the warranty be voided? I still have my subscription with Telia (swedish carrier) and the simcard for that. I can just take the unlock-card out, but the Telia-SIM back in and it works (with 2.2).

So does 2.2 have a way to notice/prevent sim-unlock-cards from working or what?
And what do I have to do to get back to 2.1?

I am in the exact shoes as josielinnea. I also use the unlock card and after my update last night, my phone has been showing NO SERVICE. I just want to downgrade to 2.1 again but that seems to be a huge problem as of now to do.

Does anyone know what I can do? If I take my unlock card and go to apple, can they downgrade to 2.1 for me?

Thanks so much,
Jennifer

I have the same problem unfortuantly I don't think it is possible to downgrade. Which basically means my iphone is useless to me know as I need to use my t-mobile sim. If anyone has had any success in getting the unlock sims working again I'd really appreciate it if you let me know how you did it.

Many Thanks

well the devs in the iPHone JB site are saying the latest 2.2 changes the baseband on the iPhone.

i personally don't know if the baseband can affect the universal SIM cards but maybe something to investigate or someone who knows more can elaborate.

downgrading dont work

i had the same problems , tried downgrading to 2.1 , but got error code 1013 and 13.

downgraded to 2.0.2 and still not working "NO SERVICE"

will try a new sim card from o2 on monday

Sorry to say it, but if you, like me upgraded to 2.2 you are screwed as far as unlocking goes.

The 2,2 firmware upgrades the baseband of the iphone, that basebands locks the phone, and so far there are no methods for unlocking it.

Also the baseband cannot be downgraded in any way!

While you can restore the 2,1 firmware and use the iphone basically as an Ipod, the baseband will not allow any unlocking solutions on the iphone.

i bouht my iphone in canada but i have the sam problem (live in poland). But i think that we should not worry b'coz don't forget about all the intelligent people in china who i believe will invent a new universal sim ;) i think that we have to wait maybe 2 weeks so don't do anything wrong with iphons.

ok , all sorted now, sim unlocks wont work on 2.2 and if you downgrade like i did , they still wont work .

i had to buy a new sim card "o2" , all is fine and working now.

i,m no expert but from what i,ve read on the forums , its the updated baseband thats causing the problems

AT&T iPhone 3G

Does anybody know if the at&t iPhone also will work with other operators that are selling the iPhone.
I used my in Sweden with a turbo-sim, upgraded to 2.2 and now I wonder if I can use it with a prepaid Telia-card (appel licensed operator in Sweden) while I wait for a bandbase fix?

I dont suppose you can because I had my Iphone locked to Vodafone Portugal and in the UK I tried with an O2 Sim card and Uni-sim +2.2 and it doesn't work

O2 is the apple licensed operator in UK

That's what I'm thinking...

...maybe worth a try anyways.
Damn you Steve Jobs and the best of luck to anybody working to fix this !!

Today I got the message that my phone has been replaced under warranty.
So using a sim-unlock-card will leave no trace that would void the warranty.

I'm pretty sure the chip you are using is specifically compatible up to 2.1. So you would have to buy the chip that is compatible for 2.2

Do NOT update your firmware to 2.2 if you have the simcard chip. If you do i think you would need to restore your phone and reinstall 2.1 and re-jailbreak the phone.

Hej!

Check this, baby ;)

As I mentioned earlier I sent my iPhone in to be repaired for the cracks in the housing, as I couldn't use it anyway (because the update disabled my unlocking solution).
When I got news that I would be replaced with a new phone, I was kinda hoping deep down I would get one with 2.1 and not the very latest model with 2.2... and I did :)

I know I'm just being damn lucky, but now I can use my sim-unlock again. And we'll see if i-sim-unlock releases a programming tool to make the chip work with 2.2 as well, or if I'll buy the new chip linked to by an earlier poster, later on.

For now, I'm just so damn lucky I won't have to use my "extra-phone", a cheap Samsung C170, and that my iPhone is unlocked again :)

I found a site in swedish that describes to download a custom made ipsw-file to upgrade/restore to using iTunes. This would contain 2.2 software but without the new baseband, which would allow for me to use my sim-unlock-card.

However the files provided all contains jailbreak as well, which I don't want.
Do anyone have a custom ipsw-file with 2.2, with the old baseband and without jailbreak?

no such custom ipsw is not possible and you should not use their custom ipsws if you are concerned about privacy and/or keeping warranty. The so called dev team does not know how to unlock iphone, yet they constantly misinform people againt using sim clips. My guess they are just few evil company employees working on leaks provided for beta testing new apps.
If you want 2.2 you should unfortunately spend another 20-30 bucks on new sim clip or pay even more to operator to submit unlock request to evil comapny

I'm still keeping my iPhone 3G on the 2.1 firmware. Will upgrade only if there is a unlock solution out there. As for now, 2.1 firmware would have to do it for the time being.

Oddly....

I have an iPhone 3G from O2 (UK) and have I just upgraded my firmware to 2.2 (5G77). Using a iSmartfone sim-hack and Vodafone UK, I am still able to use the iPhone without any apparently problems. Please can someone tell me when you've discovered your issues?

I didn't software jailbreak the iPhone prior or after, just used the sim-hack.

ismartphone

I'm using ismartphone on a 3G running 2.1 software/baseband. My iphone will work for about 4 hours then go to "No Service". Then I have to put my SIM into a Tmobile phone and then switch it back to my iPhone and it will work unlocked for another 4 hours until it goes to No Service again. My opinion is that these SIM unlockers are a scam crap. I'm in the USA running Tmobile.
