It just gets bogged down easier now. Some apps won't even show the launch animation correctly. Playing music though the dock connector while you're using it makes it run slower than heck. It performed much better for me in 2.x.

So you and your friends don't notice that and that's fine, but I can't live with that kind of perfomance, so I'm upgrading to the 3rd gen iPod touch. I can't wait!!!

Sounds like your iPhone was pumped, rather than 3.0 bogging it down.

I've uses numerous friends and family members 3G's running 3.0 and have played around with the 3.0 enabled iPhone 3G's in the Apple Store here in Glasgow and all of them run absolutely fine.

Yes, it is slower than the 3GS by a few milliseconds here and there, but I've never once seen app launch animations go missing or felt the handset was acting like it was "bogged down".

I can understand and appreciate your reasons, but the iPhone 3G has not become a piece of **** overnight.

Sorry.

Whatever you say man... I just know what I like and I know lag when I see it. My iPhone runs better on 2.2.1 than 3.0/3.1. I'm sure 3.0/3.1 runs fine for you, but it doesn't run fine for me.

I guess I'm just a 2.2.1 kind of guy. However, when I get my new iPod touch, I'm going to have to like 3.1 because it's the only thing it's going to be able to run... but that doesn't matter because it will run it FAST.

That's good for you my friend ... as I said in the other thread, you're obviously a kid who's priorities in life lie elsewhere, and that's not a compliment.

I'm off work for a fortnight, so I'm about to take the kids down to the local park for a run about with the dog since it's a strangely nice day here in Glasgow considering it's mid-September.

Yes, I'm being arrogant and somewhat pompous towards you ... but then again my life and the excitement I get from it doesn't revolve around which device can run iPhone OS 3.1 quickest and laughing at other people having lock up's on a consumer electronics device.

My iPod touch can barely handle 3.0 so make sure you get the new new ones with the better procesor/ram.

ok lets settle this. if
* you plan on doing medium to high gaming get the 3gs.if not, then get the 3g

* If your going to want to video record, get the 3gs

* If you want to take any intrest in jailbreaking, defenitly get the 3gs. ( If you think the 3g is slow, try jailbreaking it)

* If your like me and really notice the diffrence in speed the 3gs brings, get it. To an average consumer, it might be different. But seeing how much money i spend on my iphone, i think the extra hundred dollars is money well spent.

And finally, the most important pert, MY OPINION!!! (orgasm)

*** If your going to be locked down into a 2 year contract, theres no reason to not spend a hundred more to get a better version.

The pros-

Better resale
Faster, much needed for any kind of game
Faster, for jailbreaking
Video recording <3
The capability of running the 7.2 mb/s network when its released, a feature that the 3gs does not have

The cons-

extra 100

In my opinion, the positives of getting the S greatly outweigh the negatives. If your buying yourself into a 2 year contract, theres no reason you should limit yourself to a year old item, especially in the tech world. Even if you have to pay the extra 100 now, it will pay off itself when your ready to sell it. As it is, i sold my used iphone 3g on ebay for 500, making a cool 300 in the process of getting the latest and greatest. If you get the 3gs, you WILL NOT regret it.

And keep us posted on what you do decide to do!

Have a great day!

John

Better resale is the main point for me!

Go with the 3GS.

You'll get:

- Twice the storage

- More RAM and faster processor makes for a much faster experience.

- Better Cam for higher quality still shots and video recording.

- A compass to complete the navigational experience.

- Faster network speeds when/where applicable

- Higher resale value

Worth $100 more IMO.

Strive for the 3GS, can't go wrong with with either though. GET WHAT YOU CAN WORK WITH RIGHT NOW.
