Considering it says it can unlock software versions 1.4-1.9 that don't even exist I wouldn't trust it. I'd wait for the unlock from the dev team.

Well considering you can pay via Paypal there is no risk in trying, instant money back if it doesn’t work by opening a dispute. I’ve just bought and it’s a PDF file with links to a lot of custom firmware

kindly requested to update us.

Thanks

As expected the only thing it does is jailbreaks the 3G, I emailed them asking if I'm doing something wrong and that's why it's not unlocking it but no reply yet. Also opened Paypal dispute so at least I've not lost anything.

What a bunch of idiots. There site should be closed down

They claim to have a new update for the software. So, whoever bought the s/w on the thread might want to try to unlocked the 3g with the updated s.w

No updates at all, all you get for buying is a PDF which links to custom firmware which jailbreak the phone and also a copy of QuickPwn.

PM and I will send the PDF link

different result...

tried it and it doesnt activate the phone post install of the custom firmware, which kinda leaves me in a hole, as neither quikpwn or pwnage supports the custom firmware supplied. So, either i have a pwned, non unlocked iphone, or a possibly unlocked, non-activated iphone lol. Anyone know if there's any way of simply modifying rather than replacing this firmware to activate the phone?

This guide works with iPhone's up to the latest 2.0.2 firmware version!
1. Connect device (iPhone) to iTunes 7.7, and restore it. This will clean your device from data
XP: click start, then run, then copy the code below into the run box:
%appdata%\Apple Computer\iTunes
%appdata%\Apple Computer\iTunes
OSX: browse to ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/
Delete the folder called “Device Support” if you see it.
3. VISTA: Click start, copy code below into the search box, and press enter:
2. Download this small file
4. Create a new directory called “Device Support”, and copy the downloaded x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw
into the “Device Support” folder you just created.
6. Steps 6-11 enter DFU mode. DFU means Device Firmware Update. When placing your device into DFU Mode
it does not load the OS before attempting the restore. If there is anything on the screen the iPhone is NOT in DFU mode.
In DFU mode the Device has a blank screen as if it were switched off, but iTunes shows it in recovery mode. Follow the
steps below to get the device in DFU mode.
7. Open iTunes, and connect the Device to your Computer.
8. Press, and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

9. After exactly 10 seconds release the Sleep/Wake button. Continue holding the home button until you iTunesevice in
pops up a message telling you that it has detected a Device in recovery mode.
10. The Devices screen will remain black like pictured below.
NOTE: It may take a few attempts to get your Device into DFU mode. Generally, I hold
down both buttons then release the Power button just before I think the Apple logo would
appear. If you are still holding both buttons down, and you see the Apple logo you are
holding them down for too long! If you get stuck on the apple icon hold the power button
to get back to emergency mode and start back on step 6.
11. Once your Device is in DFU mode, and detected by iTunes, click on the Device in iTunes
WINDOWS: Hold the SHIFT key, and click on restore.
MAC: Hold the OPTION key, and click on restore.
12. Browse to the folder where you downloaded the larger .ipsw in step 5, and select it.
iTunes will then extract the file, and take about an hour to complete the process.
13. Once completed you are given the option to “restore the backup” or “set up as new Device”. I strongly recommend
choosing “set up as new Device”, but if you want to choose “restore the backup” you can try it here. If after restoring
the backup the device does not function properly then you will need to repeat this entire process and choose “set
up as new device” at the end.
Congratulations. The process is complete.

These guys are going to get sued easy for stealing other peoples work and selling it off.

No, they wont. Do you know of any other party that has been sued ?

Anyways, nice that they said they updated their software recently,
but their directory is fully open, see

I tried it and it did not work.

What do you think would happen if you just restored your iphone with the iPhoneUnlocker3G.Firmware.2.0.1.ipsw file? You could just restore it with an original IPSW file if it didnt work right? I just dont want to mess my phone up forever!

Well, I couldn't resist and I tried this out. The good news is that it actually does unlock the phone… sort of (you need to have a valid AT&T plan for the first activation.

  1. I used the iPhoneUnlocker3G2.02.ipsw file.
  2. It's also important that you also put the x12220000_4_Recovery.ipsw in the "Device Support". This is probably the key to the unlock.
  3. After the restore, Cydia is installed, but not Installer.
  4. Even though the restore file indicated it's 2.0.2, it is in fact, 2.0
  5. You need to to plug it into iTunes for the initial activation with a valid AT&T SIM.
  6. Once that was done, I was able to switch SIMs and make/receive calls with no 'Invalid SIM' errors and no need to connect to iTunes.

I'm going to try upgrading to 2.0.2 now and see if it remains unlocked.

And the other SIM you put is not an other AT&T SIM? I tried it twice on two phones and never worked

It is another AT&T SIM. However, prior to doing this, I was unable to use any SIM except the original iPhone activated one. Unfortunately, I don't have a non-AT&T SIM available to test. We only get Verizon and Cingular down here, although T-Mobile are coming later this year.

Did you get the latest files from http://www.unlock-the-iphone.com/order_complete/ ? and did you put the small device driver file in place?

I also just upgraded to 2.0.2. I left the small file in the Device Support dir and I can still switch SIMs with no issues.

It's probably of limited use for most people, but it's useful for those of us that swap handsets or share them around the family. Just pick a phone and stick the SIM in.

One other thing. I also tried one of the old Cingular 64K SIMs. Not surprisingly, that doesn't work. It just shows no service.

Quit wasting time. If there is a way to software unlock the phone, you won't be the first to "discover" it.

Eh? Who said anything about being first? In case you didn't notice, this thread is discussing http://www.unlock-the-iphone.com/ who claim to have a software unlock. If you're not interested in 'wasting' your time discussing it, go play in another thread.

I haven't wasted my time. In fact if you bothered to read my post, you'll see I have unlocked it enough for my purposes. Using this method, you can happily switch AT&T SIMs without requiring iTunes activation.

I guess you have a stick up your arse pretty far and can't see what I am saying.

If there is software unlock, you will read about it before you would need to google a website that claims they can do it.

As for using another sim card, I have always been able to put in any sim card into the 3G phone without itune activation. Not sure what sim card or what 3G phone you been using.

I am simply saying this, quit wasting time with these garbage sites, and if there is software unlock, you will read about it on the front page of MacRumors.

Ps. Having to plug in your phone into iTunes then being able to swap other AT&T sim card means absolutely NOTHING. Go and search for Jailbreak...
