I definitely prefer the screen on mine vs. the older iPhone

older one is too cool/blue

I have 2 white iPhones. 1 with the yellow screen and the other with the blue/pink tint. While I am not a huge fan of the yellow tint, that screen has better contrast. The blacks look deeper, making the screen look overall more vivid.

Right now I dont know which 1 to keep. More vivid yellow tint or better white color but a bit washed out?

Just saw a pretty much perfect iPhone 3G screen today. It was bright, white with great contrast! They do exist but seem to be insanely rare...

My wife has a v1 and I have a 3G.
My 3G screen is definately has a Yellow tint to it. (which is best noticable when placed side-by-side)... and had to swap my 3G for other reasons last week.
...unfortunately the new one is still yellow-tinted!!!!

All the 3G are more yellow than the original. But there are still huge differences within the 3G iPhones.

I decided to exchange my quite yellow (compared to others) iPhone 3G and sadly my new one is even more yellow! I must be so deep in the yellow tint that I start to forget how white really looks. Next exchange already started....

My movies scenes are really dark too, has anyone get passed this? Is there an way to adjust black levels? This sucks :( I wanna watch the godfather im iphone 3,2" display :(

Interesting photo, does the new one have a yellow tint, or maybe the old one as a blue tint? - I don't notice a problem on mine, looks great :)

Yea, I compared with my other 4 iPhone 3G too, mine is yellow-ish, 3 of other is bit cooler? Is it faulty? and how do I return and get a replacement?

I have an iPod Touch 1g that looked neutral until I bought an iPhone 3G and put them side by side. Now the iPhone 3G looks yellow tinted and the iPod Touch looks blue/purple tinted. My guess is that neither deviates all that much from neutral colors, but when juxtaposed the difference is jarring.

3G iPhones probably are a bit yellowish, but I think it looks worse than it is if your point of reference is an iPhone 2g or an iPod Touch 1g - I bet the old ones veered as much towards blue/magenta as the 3G does towards yellow, it's just that people didn't notice the tint on the old ones because it was the only iPhone/iPod Touch screen they knew...

I upgraded my gen 1 iPhone to 2.1 tonight and noticed the yellow tint now.
My wife upgraded to 2.1 on her gen 1 iPhone last Fri and her screen is normal (not yellowish).

very weird

I did a side by side recently and FINALLY saw the yellow tint thing...fortunately it was the other phone. Thought mine looked much better. All I could think looking at the other phone is pee-pee...sorry.:)

I just purchased a 3G 16GB last night and I have this yellow tint issue. Are there any fixes for the phone running 2.2? It came with 2.1 out of the box, but I updated to 2.2 last night; didn't see any screen changes or improvements.

I bought my iPhone early this week, and the screen was perfect. I was so happy, switching from T-Mobile and all, despite the huge ETF I have to pay. I then find out that the speaker on my phone was defective, and sounds were distorted/crackling/etc at a low volume.

I took it into the Apple Store today, and had it exchanged for a new one. The new replacement phone had a horrible yellow screen and the brightness didn't even compare to my girlfriend's new iPhone. He agreed and had it exchanged, but they said that was the last time they could do it due to inventory.

I was hoping that the third one would be the charm, and I could leave happy after spending all this money to get the phone of my dreams. The third phone has the same exact yellow screen. I am so disappointed with all this :/

What should I do? Take it to another Apple store or something? It's hard to like the phone when the screen is so yellow.

Either take it to another apple store, or simply call apple care and have them send you a replacement.

i just bought a 16g white 3Gs iphone yesterday, and immediately noticed the yellow screen compared to my old 1st gen iphone. though disappointed, i really think that the yellow tint to the screen is because of the oleophobic screen. its a special organic polymer chemically bonded to the glass. i won't go into the details, but it is responsible for new 3Gs' resistance to excessive smudging. it partially resists the oils in our fingers. anyway, i think that is the reason the screen is yellow, if not i guess its another call to apple about replacement. here's a link from the OG Bill Nye explaining it:

Go to the apple store and look at the array of phones....I'm certain you will see "white" and "yellow" screens on 3gs models.

Hey Guys,

got a little problem, maybe you can give me some hints and share your experience ;)

Yesterday, I went to the Apple Store and bought a 32 GB iPhone 3Gs. After getting my new phone the Apple Store guy and myself examined the phone and we found a big scratch on the top of the phone (was brand new and still sealed phone) so I was asking if I could get a another one..

Unfortunately, their system went down in this very moment so I had to wait for almost an hour to get the phones exchanged.

Ok, got the new one, also brand new, still sealed. Opened the package, examined the phone, also a small scratch in the silver brezzel.. but this time I said I just take it because I did not fancy another exchange since it was already quite late in the evening.

This morning, playing with my new iPhone I realised that the screen has some kind a weird color gradient. Whites are nicely white at the top of the screen (where the speaker is), however, the whites at the bottom of the screen, near the home button, are quite yellowish..

What should I do.. do you think the Apple store will exchange it another time if I go there and tell them that this is quite disappointing?! I dont mind a warmer screen, just the screen should be the SAME color everywhere..

Is this a know issue?

Best, Dan

I also posted in the Apple Support forums. I can't believe no one at Apple is responding to this. Mass media time?

Every 3G S I had an issue with the yellow tint on the bottom of my screen. I was able to get the screen replaced and it looked great (whiter, definitely), but battery life on that unit was bad.

After exchanging it for another, I noticed this one had the yellow tint on the bottom, too. I asked if they can change it with the one I had before, and was told no, I would need to get a replacement display, and to also schedule another appointment tomorrow!

I grudgingly did so, and the replacement display is now ALL yellow. What could I do?

The "trained" Genius are trained to spouted the same old "within spec" crap. It's DEFINITELY not within spec, as it is VERY noticeable.

Apple quality control is nonexistent, and I think people just love them for the software and the interface (which I'm not arguing - I really love the OSes for both their computers and phones). I'm a new MacBook and iPhone owner, and without needing to COMPARE to an older phone or MacBook (and even before hitting the forums and Google), I could TELL there were things wrong with them (keyboard and trackpad button was mushy and uneven feeling).

"Everything is in spec" or "within margin of error" is the "answer" to all my problems.

I can't return my MacBook since it's over 30 days (looking to sell it to wash my hands of Apple now). I have a few days to return the iPhone and cancel my AT&T account without getting locked into the 2 year contract.

Pitty, since I had an iPod Touch before, and I loved it! I'm personally locked into how easy it is to sync my iPod Touch (sold now, which is why I got an iPhone) to get podcasts every morning for my commute to work. However, I'm not a Lemming, and will use my iRiver 20GB MP3 player for this job (as I had in the past).

It's nice to have, but not worth the trouble of sticking with a subpar company who does not and WILL NOT stand by their products.

My reviews on the two Apple products and my experiences with the Geniuses.

I get a lot of readers, and make lots of recommendations to products, and APPLE will not get my support. In fact, quite the opposite. Windows 7 will be out, and Zune HD will be, too! And, here's to hope Microsoft make the Zune HD into a phone as well. :)

Competition is good, and I hope this will force Apple to treat their customers better. Those Geniuses are very condescending, and I dread ever going back to aa Apple Store.
