quite honestly, it looks like someone lined the bezel with stick-on sequins / fake diamonds / whatever the hell those craft items are called... for like a total of $0.99 at Hobby Lobby...

Was it done with this do you think?

I'm glad it didn't sell. If they hadn't been greedy and started the auction at $1000, they probably would have gotten bids.

Anyway, gemstones/precious metals just don't mix with technology that gets outdated yearly. It's a bad investment. If those tiny diamonds are of any value, you'd be prying them off in a couple of years.

That's a lot of money to invest, considering it doesn't change the look of the device all that much (and not for the better either, IMO).

Still though.. "Free shipping". Woot!

Fail. Anyone ever see the auction for a bentley (with diamond encrusted rims), macbook pro (diamonds all over the place), iphone 3g (diamond bezel and backing), and some other jewelry? I think it was like 2 million or something crazy.

I would ask "Who would pay for that?", but then I answered my own question when I saw Micheal Moore's new trailer "Capitalism: A Love Story"
You answer incorrectly, as the correct answer is "no one", since the auction ended with 0 bids.

So I ask now:

How much more are people willing to pay if that phone would be more expensive?

-$1000 to -$3000, I'd guess.

the auction ended early for some reason, it was up for only a day and I remember it was a 10 or 9 day listing. Something must have been up, maybe sold on the side? Or shut down by apple?

SI diamonds have undetectable to eye defects. Looks alright to me, I think the crookedness is an optical illusion, would be nice to see like a video or smthing....

Apple wouldn't give two figs about this auction.

I wrote the seller a message, he was contacted by someone and told that it was illegal to alter Apple's design and sell it. So i guess Apple did give an ass hehe. He also said he'll post the video on youtube and send me a link.... Interesting....

Achoo! Sorry, I'm alergic to bull****.

If that was true, then ColorWare would have been shut down a long time ago, as would all those companies that gold plate things like iPods then sell them.

The seller is clearly talking crap.

yea but all these companies provide a service, you send in your stuff to get it done. But you can't do it yourself and then sell it already done/altered

Both ColorWare and most, if not all, gold plating companies will sell you a iPhone brand new that they've modified.

If you go on the ColorWare site, for example, you'll see options to either send yours in or buy a new one off them.

Maybe they pay royalties to Apple? Now I'm curious!

diamond encrusted phones (and most other things) are lame, its a gaudy and distasteful IMO. To top it off, those diamonds are terrible....the buyer's an idiot.

why are they terrible?

If someone has the money to spend on it, then I wish them the best for there new diamond iPhone 3gs.

Wow what a waste of time and $, because first here are some issues I see with trying to sell this:

1) Diamond chip quality, you have to have it inspected or you can wind up with Fugazi diamonds then you have a $4,000 pile of nothing.

2) I would be worried the chips would come off

3) PPL will think you are related to Paris Hilton

4) I am not 100% sure but they could in some way interfere with the performance of the phone.
