Yay, someone noticed :)

And all this talk about Moore's/Kryder's Law, they are all related and have proven to be more or less consistent with the developments in those fields even up to now.

True, we will reach some limit of storage density, but we're assuming that Apple won't redesign the innards of the iPhone to free up more space for things like RAM and storage. We're also assuming that this limit will catch up to Apple's yearly doubling of storage space with their iPhone/Touch devices, in the near future. This shouldn't be the case for at least several years. Who knows, we might not even need that much local storage, maybe storage will grow so fast that it wouldn't make sense to have 1TB of storage on a phone.

Who knows, but 1TB would be nice to replace an Apple TV.

32 gb too small

Not trying to sound rude, but why on earth would you need to carry all that media around at one time? Sure, you might have more than 32GB of stuff, but there is no way you would ever need that much media to carry at one time. Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people agree with me on this one.

theres no way to ever need that much space? ionly have 2gb left on my 32 gb iphone and it's all music. thats why i need 64 gb! it didnt take half my music library to fill it up.

am i supposed to go thru 4000+ songs everyday wheni leave the house and pick the few i want for the day?

I also have an alpine multimedia station in my truck which plays all my music/music videos and movies. if i was to put all my vids and movies that would be another 15 gb taken

i use all my media when driving/jogging/sitting in dr. office/riding 4wheelers/taking road trips etc. i need all this media!

Some people travel and its nice not to take a laptop, to add audiobooks, movies or other entertainment.

O hai guize i needz 4terabyteZ of storage....cuz i'm greedy and neezdz all my pr0n on my phone!!!!!11111holdshiftidiot111!!!!. Seriously guys if you need that much memory just carry your laptop with you and load por- I mean movies and videos on as you need. set up a few genius playlists and there is no need to sync all your music to your iphone/ipod

I hope they do up the iPhone to 64GB with the next version.

My 32GB is full already. I know it's not essential to have everything loaded on at once but it is nice.

Love it when 16year olds with their worlds of experience know what everyone else needs. If you don't need 64 Gb or 32Gb just don't buy one how about that. Those that do or think they do can buy what they need or want.

It's nice traveling on business for 3-4 weeks and not having to lug a laptop all over the place and through airport security and such, but I guess you wouldn't know about that.

Never said I had worlds of experience (even though I probably do). Just saying your cellphone shouldn't replace your mobile computer. If your on a business trip I would reccomend a laptop in all honesty...a cellphone no matter how powerful is no replacement for a laptop. Additionally 64GB and 128Gb is pretty damn hard to put into a phone at the moment. If you "need" all that media buy iPod classic as it's use is for all you media hounds. Apple doesn't have these large storage size differences amongst there iPhone/iPod line for no reason. It's almost up there with the iPod touch users wanting the 3 gen touch to have everything minus a cellular radio but failing to realize that you can't stack one of your products to be that much better regardless of which type of person your caitoring to.

look at the app Simplify Media.

It will stream your media via edge/3G/wifi to your iPhone

Yah, I don't really see why they ever made anything bigger than 128 Mb. Why would you need anymore?

I was saying the same thing....I had the 4GB 1st gen phone because I said "I do not more than 200 songs on my PHONE, I have an iPod for that" but then I lost my iPod for a very long time (just found it after 2 years)....but of course that once beloved 30GB Video isn't cutting it, not even close. Anyway, I ended up putting more and more music on my iPhone, then got the 16GB 3G....now is almost full, and that is cutting back - a lot. I have a few vids, a few playlists I like.

Guess the only way to fulfill my music needs is to get a Classic iPod, or wait for a 64 iPhone.

Nothing beats going to a party and having your iPhone right there to share with everyone.....

That's neat and all, but I just spent 52 hours in the car over the last two weekends (drive ATX -> PIT one weekend, back the next), and a lot of that territory doesn't even have EDGE, let alone 3G.

I can't say that I listened through all 29GB of music and podcasts I have on my phone, but I DID go through all of the fast-beat, high-energy stuff several times.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is better than caffeine. :)

Sure a 64GB model will come out, only not for the iPhone 3Gs. It will be there in the iPhone 4th gen.

And it seems a lot of people are forgetting one important thing: the design can change, maybe not much, but it's possible.

128GB won't come out for a while.

My 16 gig isn't even half way full....64 gigs would be way to much for me...but I hope they do it for the people who need it....not for the people who's going to buy it just to say they got the 64 gig one....

Maybe they'll have a means test to prove that you actually need it:D

90% of this forum would then proceed to complain about AT&T in that case. Props to you. That said I can understand why you would want a 64gb iPhone but don't jump the gun yet because you won't see a 64gb iPhone tell the touch gets 128Gbs. Something tells me apple is going to bump the classic up by double next though.

As I found last week when I was driving through the night from Nashville to Houston, it's extremely nice to have a bunch of different kinds of media at one's disposal so you can pick and choose whatever's best going to enable you to stay a) awake, and b) reasonably entertained. From ca. 2-5:30 am, I listened to Office Space (through the dock/stereo) and several episodes of The Office and, stunningly, never felt really tired. And that was after having driven from St. Louis to Nashville the day before, going to a concert, and leaving to hit the road straight from the venue in order to be in Houston for a different concert the next night. Music alone never would have cut it at that point.

In answer to the original post. Buy it now and make the most of what is available!

2 points to bear in mind:
1) When the 64Gb iPhone does arrive you will be faced with the exact same quandary (when is the 128Gb gonna be available?)
2) Will 64Gb be enough storage by such time anyway. (photo's, videos and Apps are constantly growing in size and quantity)

Good luck with the new iPhone...
:D

Well indeed Apple could release 3 models next summer:
32GB low end
64GB mid tier
128GB top tier

64GB will be a LOT of storage for 80% of users looking at music, photos, emails and apps. Video's will just always need more storage space; hence the need to increase iPod Touch to 64GB.

To those that are talking about using 2 chips versus 1 in the iphone ... what are you SMOKING!?? So you're telling me that a MicroSD card can get to 32GB on 1 and possibility to get to 64GB on something as SMALL as a pinky finger nail, and YET even with the speeds of MicroSD HC that similar RAM cannot go into the iPhone?! I see NO difference with read/write speeds or longevity over a 2yr span.

What we should also be hoping for is an increase of RAM &/ ability for catched ram on the storage for running applications. 256 is not enough for these ever increasing complexity of applications. Looknig to 512/1GB.

RAM storage is getting very costly and low on supply so we'll see.

I'd definitely go for a larger capacity model. There's much more I'd like to keep on my 32GB right now in terms of a handful of movies, a broad range of music, key apps (GPS being 1.3 GB or so), and some videos & pictures. It all starts to add up!
