iPhone 3gs cracked screen

So my iPhone was in my back pocket today and I crouched down to grab something and then BAM! My iPhone falls no more then a foot to the ground. Picked it up and had about 3 or 4 cracks across the screen. So I go to an apple store thinking that because it only fell about a foot there had to be a defect in the glass and they would replace it at no cost. **** was I wrong, tried charging me $199 to either fix it or replace it. He eventually went down to $100 but I ended up arguing and just left. My question is if I go to another apple store and change my story, like say I pushed the screen and it broke, can they look up what I said today?

You were lucky that was a good offer, why is it apples fault because you dropped your phone? I dropped mine and paid $125 to have it fixed,never crossed my mind to have someone else pay for the damage that I had done. I would have taken the $100 offer and counted my self as lucky.
 
I feel your pain, but what happened to people just taking adult responsibility?

You dropped your phone. It wasn't a defect or hardware issue. You...dropped...your...phone. S**t happens.
You should've taken the $100 deal.
But instead, you are going to try and put one over on them.

Way to take accountability for your own actions.

By the way, I had a party the other night and someone broke a glass and didn't say anything.
It was you, wasn't it?
 
I've never heard of them offering a $100 deal before. And pushing the glass and it breaking isn't exactly a great cover story :rolleyes:

I'm pretty sure they attach notes to your file anyway, so another Apple store will know what you've done.
 
Yea my phone falls from less then a foot and it breaks, bs in my opinion. The guy even said he's never seen that happen before, whitch to me means it's defective.

Or maybe it was 18 inch, or twenty inches, or seeing as it was in your back pocket you sat on it.
 
Yeah, you should have totally taken the $100.
And that story will never fly. just because it was only 1 foot doesnt mean it shouldnt crack. It matters how it dropped.
The ONLY way that story would ever work is if you have stone hands, or when you get angry, you turn into a muscular green beast.

Well, I find this topic defective.

Besides, I have the feeling "less than a foot" is a huge understatement. I call bs.
 
The guy at the store said that people have just been texting and the screen cracked. The main reason I didnt take the $100 offer is because I can't afford it right now with college and no job. The only reason I have the phone is because I paid for the service for the year over the summer.
Also everyone needs to calm down, just asking a question.

This is what it looks like, didnt think it was that big a deal.

You dropped it. Things happen.
It's not Apple's problem, really.

When I was moving into my place, I dropped my tv on the ground a couple feet, which caused a circuit to come loose and the tv wouldn't turn on.
Should I have called Sony and asked for a replacement because of what must have been an obviously defective circuit board?
No. I paid for the repair.
Like an adult.

And...I'm done.

Hey he's one of the new modern generation where the world is responsible for his happiness and self esteem. Talk nice to him it's probably his first set back in life.;)

no matter how far the phone fell (if it actually fell), you should not lie to Apple about it because that will just make matters worse. just tell them the truth and hope for the best. if you get another $100 offer, TAKE IT! if not, then do whatever you can to get the money for a replacement or repair. or just get another cheap phone while you save up to get the replacement or repair.

and I don't see how ripping on the OP will help his circumstance
 
Why don't you go drop all your other electronic devices with screens and see what happens to them, if they don't crack then take them all to the apple store and show them your findings!

It's one thing to think it could have been a defect, but to try and goto another store and make up some half ass story about the screen cracking when you pressed it is whack. You would be contributing to fraud, what us good consumers pay extra premiums for because the select few thieves want a free ride.

He is the victim here. As I have two iPhones in my house perhaps the government will step in and give him one of mine that hasn't been dropped.

My iPhone saw this. It immediately shut itself off. Also, Apple will repair for $199.

Also, big no-no on lying. Be honest. It's hard I know, but it's best to be honest since so far our honesty to Apple pays off (well most of times).;)

Yes to hell with health care, we need universal iPhone coverage, there are people out there that can't afford to have their iPhone repaired, this is a moral issue. Oh the humanity:p
