Now I know how this is how businesses work, they add features that people want to see but with apple they add old features that every other phone/laptop/tablet has already had for the last 3 years and then charges you up the arse for it and these aren't "revolutionary" or "magical" features and neither are they features that couldn't have been added the the previous years device

I agree with mislabeling them as "magical" and "revolutionary" but I wouldn't agree that there is a tablet out that compares to the iPad and I personally don't want any other phone than my iPhone, I don't think any other holds a candle to it. My MacBook has outperformed my expectations.

That being said, yeah Apple's technology is somewhat outdated but they put it in devices and they work extremely well , are reliable, and fairly fool proof. Apple posts the tech specs and if you don't like what's inside there is no reason to buy it. I love my iPad and I'll love the new iPhone as I did my old one. When the new one comes out, I'll keep loving it. Although I like to skip generations because I feel like I get more out of it :)

Exactly.

Skip the generations that don't add a lot of value to you, personally.

3G was really important to me, as I used data a lot on the go. Video/slight speed boost was not. I got the 3G, skipped the 3GS altogether, and now I'm pulling the trigger on the 4.

You don't have to have every generation. Just the ones that add the most value to what YOU need.

Any ideas why its taking so much longer for the ios to come to ipad than the iphones???

Nobody knows other than Apple.

My take is that they don't have enough resources to work on both versions to release it at same time. They need additional time and engineers, so instead of pushing back iOS 4 (which would require them to push back iPhone 4), they decided to just focus on iOS 4 while at same time fork off a small team to get iOS 3.2 out for iPad. There's a reason that iOS 3.2 for iPad don't look right, they didn't really have the whole iOS team working on the unique features for the iPad. That small team is probably already working on iOS 4 for iPad, slowly adding features over time as the iOS team for iPhone/iPod touches continue to finalize it. Once the GM is made, the iOS team will be diverted fully to the iPad and work on it.

It's the same reason iOS 3.2.1 is not out yet, the team is not allocated fully to fix all the issues yet.

I still love my iPad. I am, however, looking forward to an iPad with a retina display and similar build quality. The iPad has excellent build quality, but man... that iPhone 4 build looks sublime.

3 years? The iPhone hasn't even been out for 3 years yet, much less everything else that followed it.

yeah Apple's technology is somewhat outdated

Retina display: highest PPI on the market; IPS
camera: depends on whether you believe the Megapixel Myth; 30fps HD video
A4 processor
802.11n
gyroscope
Micro-SIM (good or bad, but not outdated)

Stand corrected on iphone for sure and referring to "apple's technology" as it's their own. Referring more to laptop, Intel and Nvidia. i5/i7, other hardware, took awhile to adopt. However I have zero complaints about any direction apple is taking itself.

Ipad IOS4 and the New Iphone

Apple has a looonnnnnng history of marketing an item, discounting it after 6 months and then discontinuing it between 1 to 2 years. Nevertheless, I bought an Ipad 3g wi fi, not because it was new and nifty but because it did what I wanted it to do:

* My back is bad and I can't keep lugging a laptop, power supply, etc., through airports.
* I can effortlessly transfer my pdf's to the Ipad and have all the info I need.
* If I need it, I can use remote control of my computer through Ipad, or access documents that are stored on line.
* Easy transfer of movies and books to the Ipad.
* I love Dropbox

What I could care less about
* Any camera on the Ipad. I have the Iphone and a nice canon HD camera.
* Video calls.
* Gyroscopes

What I would like to see:
* Effortless multitasking (coming in fall)
