I know this is a bit of a generic kinda thread but I really can't make up my mind about this.

My first iPhone was a 3G and now I am on an iPhone 4. I really really love the iPhone 4.

I didn't upgrade from the 4 to a 4s because it didn't seem worth it to me but I am seriously considering upgrading to the iPhone 5.

Do you think I will find it to be worthwhile?

Thank you.

Unless you need the 5 for some reason right now, I'd say wait a couple months for the 5s, or whatever they call it. However, as people (correctly) point out, sometimes there is no point in waiting because there is almost always something new coming out in a 'couple months'. So, if you have the money to burn, go for it. If not, maybe wait a couple months.

I also went from a 3G to a 4 and now a 5. There really is a noticeable improvement in processor speed, photo & video quality, as well as access to things like Siri. The all new design with the bigger screen is very nice too. Also, I found a HUGE improvement in voice quality on calls going from the 4 to the 5.

I went from iPhone 3G to Nokia N900 to HTC Wildfire(yes worse phone but n900 battery suxxxx) to Xperia Play to iPhone 5...

Also I went from iPad 2 to dropping something on it then to an iPad 2 again.

the biggest difference you'll notice, even before the screen is how much lighter the 5 is. The difference really is amazing.

Wait for the 5S unless you need a new one now. The 5 is still a nice upgrade, not amazing though from a 4. At least, you will have good signal and LTE.

That's the same path I took. 3G > 4 > 5. Do it, you'll love the 5.

Especially if your carrier is subsidizing it. You should always upgrade the minute you're able to because that's the only time you'll get anything from your carrier. Also, if you're getting a subsidy, you'll be in line for the 6. If you wait for the 5s, you'll be waiting for the 6s as well.

Also, if you're on the AT&T grandfathered unlimited plan, do it now because, at some point, AT&T will do away with the plan (Verizon already has).

Yes go for it, it was a signifacent upgrade for me ( 4 to a 5 ). Everything about the phone is better. And if you have LTE the speed is amazing.

I do not think there will be a true upgrade to the 5 until fall

I wasn't totally convinced, but having spent the last 3 days with my new iPhone 5 it's a big step up from the iPhone 4. I don't see any lagging whatsoever, it's really nice.

Anyway, the QC is not good. My first iPhone contained scuffs, the second one was bent and only on the third one I got a flawless one, not good!

First of all this is the jailbreak forum so from a jailbreakers point of view I'd go with the 5.

I would be shocked if the 5S ships with 6.1 so when iOS 7 comes out it could take many months to jailbreak and there are no guarantees a jailbreak will be releases.

If you jailbreak get the 5. If you posted in the wrong forum you might want to wait for the 5S.

I'm waiting for the 5S patiently.
The 5 wasn't a huge leap forward. Just a bit faster and a bit taller. The biggest difference was LTE but I'm on wifi mostly anyway.

I'm hoping the 5S will come with a 128gb option and 13mp camera and a speed bump and NFC.
It's only several months away now, it'll fly by.

If you are happy with the 4 then stick with it. It's still a good phone and if you are like me, and I'm really sorry if you are :D, you'll have some sentimental attachment to it. The only reason to upgrade in my opinion is if you are feeling tired of the 4 or it's showing signs of wear and imminent failure. If the new features of the 5 are tempting you, you have to weigh whether or not the benefits trump your ambivalence.

The difference in performance between an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5 is HUGE.
After having an iPhone 5 for couple months I sold the iPhone 4 realizing even jailbroken, I would NEVER go back to it, EVER !

The iPhone 4 is a good phone to own but your obviously looking forward.

Don't stand still and move forward with technology.

The jump from 4 to 5 was nice.

I have had the iPhone Orginal, 3G 4 and now the 5. If you currently have the four and have had it for the least two years and were upgrade ready I would say go for it!!! it's a great upgrade and youll see a more dramatic upgrade if you do every other generation. Good luck!

I only upgraded being that I knew that it would be jailbroken a week. The iPhone 5 has another 512mb of RAM which will help a lot in the tweaks that one adds like IntelliscreenX, etc.

This year it's particularly tough to decide with the rumors of another, larger iPhone being released later. That would mean a 5S around June/July and the new, larger iPhone around October (all speculation of course).

It's always the case though. There's another iPhone coming 6-8 months from when you want to buy one. Wait or buy now. 6-8 months is a long time.

6-8 months + 6 months before jailbreak happens

I'm hoping that with increasing competition, they up the refresh schedule like they did with the iPad 3 to iPad 4. Refresh as they need to and not wait a year.

They need to have an answer for the Galaxy S4.... So right after the S4 launches Apple should release the 5S with an A7x chip, 13mp camera, 128gb option and NFC to compete with it. Then, in fall, release a 4.9" Super iPhone and keep the 5S around thus having 2 sizes.

Wishful thinking I know. Haha.

it is kinda sad that you have to think "will i be able to jailbreak it?" before buying the phone...

Indeed... I never used an iPhone without being jailbroken, it completely loses sense to me that I cannot customize it. The reality is that I love the simplicity of the iPhone coupled with it being the best gaming platform, coupled with the fact that I can further customize it. If the Jailbreak didn't existed I wouldn't have upgraded.

If in the future Jailbreaking is not possible, I will jump ship
