Let's speculate on whether we will see/hear an Apple Event announcement in the coming days....

If we do then i would put my money on this being very close to the new iPhone, if not exactly the same.

I bet Steve is practising his lines as we speak....!!!

:D

The lost hype during the event doesn't amount to a monetary loss. Besides that, it will be offset by even more hype they are getting here.

I have to disagree with that. Why is it, do you think, that Apple builds hype the way they do? It's to build anticipation and excitement for the device, which they then get to call "magical" in front of drooling audiences. They then get TONS of glowing press. You don't think that sells products?

Now what will happen (again, if the story is actually true) is that all the press will already know what the phone's going to look like and what technology it's going to have. They won't be excited. The coverage in the press will be much more muted. The "booms" from Steve are all going to be duds.

Agreed, but I still think the amount of hype they get today evens it out. And again, there is no real way to prove a monetary loss. Competition to market is the real thing lawyers would chase here, not the hype of a release event.

Fair enough, you may be right about that. I still think you could prove monetary loss, but it's more indirect than the impact of the competition having early knowledge of their product.

<snip>Also to those who seem to think that just because Apple haven't used this type of marketing before that they will not/have not used this time shouldn't count their chickens before they hatch....<snip>

I could believe this of another company, but it just doesn't fit Steve's control-freak personality. And not just having control, but having the appearance of having control. In other words, he would never let this happen because it makes Apple look like they are not in control.

I bet this is eating him alive!! LOL

Time will tell.

Well of course it will! ;-)

you speak the truth if this were any other company, but this is apple and even if this is the design of the new iphone it is still an iphone and it is still very likely to get rave reviews and also sell just as much as it was always going to sell, and at the keynote they will still get very large cheers because the vast majority of the people who are in the hall are apple employees

Now whereas I dont think the sales of this new iphone 4G will be affected, at all, it could be made a point that sales of the old 3G and 3GS could be affected because of the wide coverage of the leak/news, but then it could also be argued that the people who were likely to buy a new iphone now would be the people who have no idea when a new iphone comes out or even the difference between the 3G and 3GS, as I'm 100% sure that the people who are reading this site and many other tech sites (who would hear about this news) would never dream of buying a new iphone now when they are 98% sure a new one is just a couple of months away

In order to prove monetary loss, though, they would have to go on record with their entire marketing strategy as well as the proprietary metrics they use to design and test that strategy. I don't think that's something Apple is going to be willing to do.

if this tweet is not a fake I would say this is not a magician at work...

It is a fake. Why do you think it's being posted everywhere as a .jpg instead of a link? Because once you get to the account it's pretty obviously fake and the poster even admits in a subsequent post that it was a joke.

Touché.

I have to say though, never say never. Someone like Steve Jobs didn't get to where he is by not shaking it up.... I could start the argument that he IS in fact in control by leaking this etc....

Maybe things are changing in SteveLand. He certainly is responding to his customers' emails a lot more now. Maybe now that he's beaten cancer he's feeling his oats a little more. (Yes, it's far-fetched.)

Exactly - this is not THE iPhone 4G. I can't imagine apple having exposed screws on the bottom of the phone like this.

That being said, it might be A 4G iPhone for use on the Verizon network. I can see Apple producing a premium, sext 4G iPhone for use only on the AT&T network and a more industrial looking, less sexy version for Verizon.

errrr....lol..have you looked at the current iphones? :D

anyways, if it didnt have screws exposed...how exactly would they keep the phone together? i can just see it now, new iphone no longer has exposed screws on the bottom! now held together by clear scotch tape

I hope apple releases a new mac pro. This handheld consumer stuff is BS I was one of the customers that keep them alive when there was no Iphone. And they dont seem to care about People that use these for professional use.(like myself). My old Mac pro has Both CPU Maxed out. I need a new computer to work not another Iphone that has 5 new feature. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I think this is a purposful leak by Apple to distract everyone from the many issues and moans about all of Apples other products.

I mean, who is moaning about iPad WiFi issuea right now?

Who is asking hwere the new MBA is?

Who is asking where the new Mac Pro is?

The answer to all is NO ONE.

Clever move about... very clever indeed.

No cease order because they have implemented the leak themselves.... they have probably used the money they would have paid lawyers to do that to silence the few that they have let in on the secret!

Thoughts?????

PS the Magician comment refers to magicians using distraction to convince the audienc eof the magic...!

No. Apple was not selling a story for $10,000 and Android and Windows 7 Series Phone (Or whatever they want to call it today) are close on Apple's heels. This release gives competitors real information on Apple may be headed. This was very costly to Apple.

They had to do something there are a lot of competitive phone coming out very soon. on Verizon and Sprint so it is going to a critical time for customers switching over. Im in the same predicament. Plan up in june. Im going to test the new evo 4 and if it lives up to my standard. I will probable go with considering we have had 4g here for about a year. Im sick of apples crappy customer service rude and stupid apple store employees. It so much nicer when you can go into you service provider store and not have to make an apointment. And ATT network sucks too. There is nothing that great or new on this Iphone how do I know this cause the network suck. Not to mention I have bad luck with phones it will be nice insure a phone once again!!:D

Has anyone considered that this was a purposeful leak of a fake product on apple's behalf just to stir up a fuss and cause some iPhone hype? Like maybe apple just scraped together this thing from left over 4G iPhone parts and 'lost' it in a bar :p

It costs tens of millions of dollars to "scrape together" a device that polished and with such purposeful internal design. If it's not the 4G, it's at least the same shape, size, and has the same internal components.

Tell me you don't equate Apple with the Illuminati?:eek:

It's not a lie. It's a supposition on his part. A crazy one, yes, but not a lie.

My guess is that he's far-sighted and can't see those tiny screws.;)

My theory is that there had to be more than one person who dropped this iPhone in the bar. The evidence just doesn't support one person dropping it. I think some executive had the iPhone in the bar and got a little tipsy and started using it to email Mr. Jobs that he sucked and that the iPad was just a big iPod Touch. Another more sober executive tried to wrestle the iPhone from the inebriated executive, whereupon it fell to the bar floor. In the tussle that ensued by other bar patrons trying to grab the iPhone (supporting the iPhone was stolen according to Apple) a person snatched the iPhone and ran out of the bar screaming "Gizmodod, I got it." (Gizmodo's everywhere). It was only a matter of time for Gizmodo to find the thief, and here we are with this thread.

Also, the Cubans or Mafia had some involvement. Gizmodo was on the grassy knoll outside the bar.

LMAO Aggie you are halarious. Great comments, especially the grassy knoll!
