Same here.
It was an old plug I had got on ebay years ago.
It worked fine for many years with every iphone besides doing that weird glitch with the iphone 5.
Good to know its not the phone.

Since I only picked my iFone 5s in March this year, I wasn't aware that there might be any bogus plugs supplied in new, OEM fone packaging. How can I tell if I might have one of those bogus blocks?

Add me to the list.

I got a replacement phone from the Apple Store Genius and I noticed my phone did this. I went back, he did a restore to rule out any kind of software issue and set my phone up as new. Still did it. He gave me another new phone. This one is doing it too.

I'm starting to think it might be my charger, but my original phone didn't do it (although it had other issues which is why I got it replaced in the first place).

I think it's some kind of bug with the new software update. It's really annoying. My phone was on the charger yesterday and it called my Mom's phone on it's own.

Going through this archival thread I just noticed that in the last part of your post you said your phone dialed your mom's phone on it's own.

Any idea how this happened? Did it ever do it again? Did you ever speak to someone @ Apple about this? Reason I ask is that I do business with overseas dealers (some by e-mail, some by phone) and I'd hate to think that my 5s could go bug nuts and start auto-dialing some of my overseas contacts without me know it.

I believe the issue ended up being the charger/wall adapter, and it never did it again after I got that replaced from what I remember.

hey i know this is sort of an old thread but i noticed it happening on my ip5s on 7.1.1, it just started happening this morning. Its totally the charger because i tested it on my old ip4s charger and it works fine, even while charging through the computer.

The plug that came with the iphone just started acting up this morning, it was fine for a while. until now. Il keep using my old plug instead of this new one, il probably buy a replacement one too. gave me quite a scare.

I had the same issue, but I found that two strange things fixed it. Either take off the case while charging, or switch to a different converter. Neither of my converters are Apple brand, but for some reason one works with my case while the other doesn't.

Are you using an Apple charger or another brand? I have had issues with devices not responding properly when not using the original charger or an official replacement. The ones specifically stating they are "Made for iPhone" should work but anything else potentially could give you problems.

Is this normal? I don't remember my previous iPhones having this issue.
Did a test between three different third party chargers, two wall chargers and one portable charger. If the mA is above or below 1000 the screen will spazz out.
(My portable charger (bottom pic) is the only one with a correct output and the screen works as usual. And yeah, my battery is old I know lol)

Hello! I did some researching and found out that this issue was caused by your iPhone case. If you remove your case and try to charge, it will not be unresponsive. Try to remove the case and put on the case and try to charge. Changing the cover to another one fixed my issue!

I hope this helps!

The assumption is that a case is involved for different people or that even if one is involved that it has any effect on this.

Why would that be the case (no pun intended)? Sounds more like a bug that eventually got ironed out to me.

I can also confirm that taking off the case solves the problem. It must have something to do with your hands grounding the iPhone, which they cannot do if there is a case covering it. It's hard for me to imagine this being a requirement of the iPhone, but it seems that that is the case. Incidentally I have a plastic case over the iPhone. I am using a stock Apple lightning cable and a stock Apple charger.
