It is a matter of opinion, I can understand that many would want to be able to use the phone with one hand. But for me, bigger is better, and 5" is the cut off before it starts to look stupid on your ear (see Samsung Note). :p

Haha yeah i get what you mean...if they made a big screened phone with extremely small bezel and dimensions, like a iPhone 5 with a edge to edge screen or something like that I would take the bigger screened phone 100/100 times

And I know lmao my brother has the Note 2 and i joke around with him saying " let me go on the iPad bro" or "get off the iPad" hahahaha

I think the 4" iPhone 5 screen is too small in my opinion, but the new Galaxy S4 @ 5" is borderline too large. My Nexus 4 @ 4.7" is as large as I wanna go.

A 4.5" sized iPhone 6 in my opinion, would be the sweet spot. Not too small, not to big, just right.

If Apple makes a 4.5" sized iPhone 6 and freshens up iOS8 with cool useful features, and maybe one widget allowed on the home screen, that would put a huge dent into Samsung Galaxy S5 and Android sales next year.

I don'd understand the appeal of these massive screens. At 4.5-5"+, you might as well just get a tablet.

it still fits in your pocket with ease But the added size provides so much more ease on the eyes when browsing etc.

anyone arguing this is just a fan boy stuck in the past. Since owning an iphone five the only "joy" i get out of it is, it completes calls and txts without issues and the music interfaces and quality is the best out.

So funny people talking about how the big screens are bad and they like their iphone screen like it is. These people will be the first to buy the new iphone 6 if it has a 5 inch screen. Just stop already. Iphones screen is too small, you all know it. 5" screen is perfect size for a phone in this day and age. Get over it.

I don't get the parroting. People have no problems with carrying their iPad Mini or iPad but they have problems with carrying a 4.5-5 inch phone?

A 4.5" sized phone over the 4" iPhone 5 is barely noticeable difference in overall szie, just a hair larger phone. Make the phone with smaller bezels, the iPhone has monstrous top bezel, that should be reduced. And a .5" larger screen would be so much nicer.

I bet in 2014 we do see a larger screen iPhone.

And your point? I like using the iPhone. I think 5 inches is kinda awkward for a cell phone because it'll be like carrying a friggin hall pass in my pocket, but if the iPhone goes 5, well then **** it I'll go along with it. Screen size is not a big deal to me on a phone. They're all too small to watch movies on. 3 inches, 5 inches.. I have my iPad for **** I want to see on a larger screen and a television for stuff I want to see on an even LARGER screen.

My point is, I'm totally happy with my 3.5 inch 4S, and later this year I'll be totally happy with my 4 inch 5S. If the 6 is 5 inches, I'll wonder what the hell Apple is thinking turning their phone into a ping-pong paddle, but I'll give it a look and consider it then. Screen size isn't a big ****ing deal on a little cell phone. You know what IS a dealbreaker to me? That ****** glitchy non-updating Android OS. Won't touch that with a 10 foot stylus.

Dude, you know better. An ipad, or laptop, or whatever is something you carry in a bag or, on certain occasions, under your arm. A phone is something you have in your pocket all day long. It's something you poop with. There's a difference.

Well, I carry a backpack and I carry a wallet.

However, I refuse to carry a purse.

Might fit in your pocket, but it's still pretty awkward to deal with in one hand. I like the size of my 4S just fine. If you have problems reading web text on a Retina screen, you need glasses, not a larger phone.

Nonsense.

every thread turns in to a screen size debate.

In 2012, Apple released an iPhone with a larger screen and an iPad with a smaller screen. All of your arguments are invalid. Apple is experimenting. They have made changes in the past, they will again in the future.

I'm an iPhone 5 owner now.

And I have to say, it's not even funny how much more advanced Android is than iOS. I think a case can be made for this statement even objectively speaking. Everything in iOS is just laborious to do. So if there's any sort of "preference" then the preference is for an OS that's harder to use (yes, you heard me!), and slower, and less intuitive.

That's some "preference"!

More:
Some more thoughts:

-Boy do I miss the dedicated back button. Sure iOS has a button that takes you back but it's not always in the same place. Sometimes it's upper left, sometimes it's lower left (Safari's back button), sometimes it's upper right, and other times it's a "Cancel" button in the lower middle of the screen. You have to search for it, instead of just having muscle memory of tapping back.

-Also miss the dedicated menu button. Goodness gracious, iOS Settings is a mess! It's honestly difficult to find certain things. And I hate how you have to leave an app in order to go to the iOS Settings to get to that app's settings. It's... so counterintuitive. Then, once in a while, you'll have an app like Gmail where there are no settings in the iOS Settings screen. It's actually in the app, so you feel like a fool going to look for it in the iOS Settings screen. Very inconsistent.

-Why does the App Store keep asking me for my password every time I download something? It's so annoying. I already registered the device and signed into iTunes/App Store with my Apple ID. Make it stop.

-Scrolling in Safari is dreadfully slow.

-While the keyboard has been faring okay, it's still no where as easy to use as Swiftkey. Boy, do I miss swiping. The iOS keyboard with its narrow screen BEGS for swiping abilities. Goodness, Apple. Update the keyboard. Everything on this keyboard feels so "manual". That's the best way for me to describe it. You have to really labor to get what you want to type and what symbols you want out. Miss predictions too. Swiftkey used to finish sentences for me. It's such a breeze tapping once to get a full word onto the screen.

-Small thing, but I miss my scrollable wallpaper. iOS looks so static and dead. :( It's really kind of sad.

-All Mail is nice, but it's kind of annoying you can't immediately tell which mailbox the email you're looking at is from. It's annoying that emails are only partially downloaded too. I have to click "download" toward the bottom to get more of it. What the heck is that? It also has to load any old mail or mail in other Labels. With Gmail, your entire mailbox (literally) was available instantaneously.

-BIG MISS: Notification light. I hate having to keep turning the device on just to see if I've got anything waiting for me. This is such a useful feature. To all those people who keep talking about how Apple doesn't implement something until people are ready for it or until they can do it right, here's a perfect example of that philosophy being utter BS. Notification light is majorly useful and it's not hard to get a simple light "wrong."

-I miss not being able to toggle the lock screen on/off. It really sucks having to put in my lock code every single time I access my phone, even if I don't need it, say like when I'm at home. On Android, you can do this, and so when you're at home, you toggle off your lock screen, thus allowing instant access to your phone.

There's a few other small things that bug me about iOS... but other than that, it's not bad. Not as bad as I thought going back to iOS would be. Maybe because my expectations are so... I wouldn't say low... but more like "trained."

EDIT: Another thing I can't stand. Notifications. The little flippy thing that comes down from the top of the screen is so obnoxious. How can anyone accept that this is all Apple could come up with to notify you? It literally blocks any access to the buttons on top. And since the "back" or "cancel" buttons are usually at the top, you have to either wait for it to go away, or swipe it away first. I mean, it's just so unintuitive. I can't believe this is what Apple software developers, after a year, came up with. This is all they could offer? How do iOS users accept this? Really.

I'm genuinely trying hard to keep an open mind and appreciate the iPhone for what it is.

But... I don't think I will last. To say that iOS is behind Android is just the biggest understatement of the year (presently). Everything is just so much more laborious on iOS. Everything is just so much more "manual."

Great marketing only goes so far...

That marketing is extremely effective.

People really don't know what they're missing out on with Android.

I can't stress how behind iOS is. I really can't. I could go on and on. Everything feels laborious, manual, a chore.

Android has figured out how to accomplish the same tasks faster, easier, more intuitively on nearly every front. It's the superior OS by far. By far. I can't even tell you how far. Very far.

Hello. Its been that way since ICS 4.0, and even better with JB 4.2 now.

If the iPhone 5S, is pretty much the same as the current iPhone 5, just faster. I forsee the Galaxy S4 outselling the iPhone 5S, and Android will really dominate the iPhone hard this year.

Galaxy S4, HTC One, Nexus-Five, Google X, those four phones will be stiff competition to the iPhone 5S.

Only hope for Apple is the larger iPhone 6, with redone iOS8,*but that's a long ways out.

I enjoy both OS's. but I kind of agree with the topic. The 5S will be mediocre at best if its like the 4 > 4S.

I think they will really need to knock it out of the park on the software front if the design stays the same.

Sure they could add some hardware to the current design even squeeze a bigger screen onto it. But keep in mind Apple uses a lot of the previous versions hardware to save cost. They make a fortune off selling you 50% of what they have already been selling. So a redesign case/screen/speakers/etc are more then likely out.

At this point I'd like to just see iOS cleaned up and stream lined. Personally I don't think *I* should be able to think of improvements to iOS and its native apps, I'm not a programmer/developer.

-Mail app, still can't attach multiple pdf's to a single email. Other mobile os's could do this for over half a decade.

-Message, better time stamp option. When I start a message why not bring up previous messages BEFORE I send?

-Maps, navigation has no night mode, speed, AVOIDANCES, etc waaaay to basic of navigation (great integration though)

-Safari, menu diving in settings to turn on off private browsing. Even with private browsing on a search done with SIRI appears in history.

-Facebook/Twitter integration is half assed. Can't add pics and who your with from notification center.

-App store is insanely slow. On wifi its bearable (barely) on Verizon's 3G its useless. Searches can suck. You can type in an apps name directly and you'll get something else first.

-Camera Roll, has no automatic sorting system. Then to add insult to injury there is no way to see the pictures date on the phone. I have over 800 pictures and if someone ask me about a pic half the time I can't find it at least in a reasonable time span.

-Camera, to basic. No settings at all except flash really. Be nice to at least have iso and white balance.

-Find my friends is the ugliest app ever

-Apple store app doesn't have an iPad version......really?

-Passbook, there are more stores around me that accept the illusive NFC payment then on screen scanning of app barcodes organized by passbook. And yes I know they are apples and oranges.

-Keyboard, auto correct is terrible. It will change my "do" to "so" a lot of the time. And it's completely featureless. The letters don't even change between upper and lower case on a digital touchscreen!! Can't change it to something better.

-Siri, overall I'm happy with. But there is plenty of room for improvement. Like being able to respond to a group message. Very annoying to have to hear her read the text then I need to open and unlock the phone to goto a group message then hit the microphone to do speech to text. Online dictation is a waste of data and can be very very slow and like most of us have see, eventually time out.

Then you have the OS itself which IMO is a bit too locked down.

I think Apple should be looking at what they can do to improve their own products before worrying about other people.

Phone advance with the screen size and resolution has hit a plateau I think.
5 inch 1080p will be the limit imo (for the foreseeable future), and apple could take their time with what to put on the phone.

5 inch 4K display would eat battery without any significant improvement.
