Have a friend who is a Supervisor for CN and oversees all the maintenance work done on the engines. Was allowed to actually drive a train on a cleared maintenance track one time before it went in for its regular inspection. One of the neatest experiences in my life. It is amazing how powerful those machines are, especially with no cars attached.

I get to drive a firetruck and ambulance on a part-time basis and it does not even compare to the experience I had driving one of those beast. Enjoy the walls.

He also showed us what happens to the engines when they hit things such as cows, transport trucks, cars and such. You would be amazed at the small amount of damage done to the engine. The front kick-plate on the engine is 1 1/2" solid steel and it does no move or bend for anything.

Now if anything they hit happens to get above that steel plate and get near the cabin, that is a whole new ball game. Was really neat to spend the day at the rail yards and learn something about trains. Gave me a new respect for them. They are massive machines.
