I bought a not cheap battery from ifixit for my 5s a couple years ago, it seemed to work fine.

I just got the battery replaced in my 6 a couple weeks ago. I can confirm that the store rep said "if we find water damage or a third party battery, we charge you $99 instead of $29." Which is cute because they don't tell you the price until after they replace it.
