I am the owner of an iPhone 6 for more than 3 years, I kept it on iOS 10 and it is still working very well. Will not upgrade to iOS 11.

I have been thinking about upgrading to a Plus model for some time...then the X came out.

Has anybody done the same jump? I checked out the X in the stores and the screen seems in between the regular and the Plus size phones.

I am 50/50 between buying it or just waiting until Sep...is FaceID fast enough or is it better to wait until the 2nd iteration? Performance wise I think the X will be very fast (coming from a 6!).

I don't mind the notch, I don't watch movies on my phone as I have an iPad for that. I am worried that the X Plus will be a bit too big...

Thanks for your help!

Face ID has its downsides, but it works fairly well for what it is. My best suggestion to you would be to handle the iPhone X again in person to see if it's something you would appreciate the size and overall new form factor. But in terms and comparisons of capabilities, the iPhone X is vastly different in every way over the iPhone 6. It's just a matter if you can appreciate everything it has to offer.

Overall, the next iPhone won't be released for another 9/10 months, so if you want the iPhone X, there is still plenty of time to take advantage of it.

Go for it man. 7-8 months is a long wait... and then there's another new iPhone on the horizon.

Since the phone is 3+ years old, I would expect that the battery isn’t the best. You probably can get the $29 battery replacement, but i think they might update the phone to iOS 11... not sure tho. If they don’t, the 6 should be fine for another 7-8 months. I personally tend to keep my phone for a long period.
However Face ID isn’t all that slow, escpically if your going from First Gen Touch ID. Here’s a comparison between First Gen Touch ID and Face ID:

I'd take the $29 battery replacement offer and wait. There's not much real-world difference between the 6 and the 8. I have an X and while it's the best phone I've ever had (and ignore the haters, Face ID is brilliant and the notch complaints are just dumb), the next gen X will bring more refinements that will readily justify a 6 to X+1 (X11? XI?). I also don't expect it will be anymore expensive than it is now.

Thanks all. I have an iPad Pro 9.7 and iOS 11 is not my favourite...

I am really itching to get the X... ;-)

Not much real world difference? The 6S was a big improvement over the 6! The 8 is a huge improvement in performance and features! In my opinion, the 6 series was a step back in performance when compared to the 5S and offered no noticeable difference in performance.

I love my iPhone X, hate the Face ID. It works but sometimes it doesn’t and you can’t use it at an angle. I most of the time just disable it and swipe to unlock. Other then that I like the X a lot.

it is a big jump between 6 and X, I have no issue with the face ID, I think it is faster at times. but if you don't care for iOS 11, that could be an issue. All in all the X is great, camera / photos, screen and I like the wireless charging... I'm very happy I did the move.

I came from a 6 Plus and got the X. I can't go back to a normal iPhone after this. I would just get it now if I were you, but supposedly Apple might be coming out with a plus model of the X later this year. If you want a plus size I would wait. If you feel that is too big I would just get the X now.

Face ID works OK (not "very well" -- some of the comments here are very Trump-ian about this feature).

I still love my X though.

I could have replaced the battery on my 6 and gotten another year out of it, but I’m glad I upgraded to the X. The camera upgrade alone has been worth it to me, but I also appreciate the speed, larger display, etc. I actually prefer FaceID and I also don’t miss the home button. I now wish my iPad Pro had the same features!

Play around with one in a store and see what you think. I have never wanted a plus sized phone, but I have wanted the dual cameras. The X gives me the camera system of the Plus in a smaller package.

Actually, I think you have that 'trump-ian' comment backwards - you seem to imply since it doesn't work 'very well' for you that anyone who claims that it does for them is lying and therefore they are wrong and your opinion is right and is the only comment that should be listened to.

Fact is, for some of us it does work very well and it is our experience that we are sharing - nothing "trump-ian" about it.

If it works very well for some and is totally crap for others.... then it's OK.

Thanks, though.

While I’m not a huge X fan, I would say it should be a great upgrade for you! Go for it.

Bigger screen, dual speakers, awesome camera, better better life.

I just upgraded from a 6 to the X.
The X is nice and fun, but I do think I was as productive on the 6 as I am now. Especially because of the narrow screen size ratio and the fat bars even adapted apps have, the actual useable screen real estate is nothing to write home about. I guess it would be different if you were to play a lot of games. Even on youtube you will get fat black bars at both sides, making the video look pretty much like it does on the 6.
And do not forget the added bulkiness and weight of the X, compared to the slim and light 6! I had my 6 in a leather case for its entire life, and I loved the thinness and lightness of it. The X is thick, heavy and feels ungainly, even without a case. I bought a leather case for it yesterday (cannot cope with it sliding around pretty much everywhere I put it, because of the glass back) and it made the phone even bulkier.

Keep the 6. Best phone going, still. The X is too heavy and expensive for what you get. Just sent one back.

Agree with these sentiments. The X is a waste of money, a downgrade from the 6 in some important ways, as you've discovered (weight and size). Face ID is annoying, too.

Since, the 6, Apple has been busy adding useless features (3D touch), taking away useful features (headphone jack), and adding weight and bulk to their phones. Dumb, just dumb.

At this rate, the iPhone XII will look like this:

Thanks all for the kind replies. Just bought a silver X 256 :)

The main selling points (vs my iPhone 6) were:

Nicer screen and slightly bigger
Better battery life
Faster in general (my 6 was notably slower than my wife 6s Plus) and my apps keep reloading
Better camera
Convenience of FaceID

I do not watch media on my phone as I have an iPad for that.

An added 20 grams and a millimetre won't make a big difference in my case.

Congrats, it is the same configuration I have as well.
Enjoy your new phone, and maybe come back in 2 weeks time to tell us about your feelings ;)

Congrstulations! Tell me how it is! I personally can't use a phone without a physical home button, and use headphones a lot (so I need an auxiliary port). Does anyone know when Apple's $29 battery deal ends? My 6s Plus only has like 6% wear but still.

$29 deal ends 12/31 and its a one time only per phone...
