iPhone 6 Plus to Samsung Note 5?

I recently sold my iPhone 6 Plus and ordered a new 6s Plus that will arrive 9/25. I was all excited about it until I went to AT&T and discovered the new Edge+ and Note 5. I was blown away by their speed and vibrant screens. I've never been a fan of Samsung. I figured no I should stay with the iPhone since I have all Apple products but I can't quit thinking about it. I keep telling myself that the iPhone 6s wasn't that much of a change so maybe I should switch to Android for a year. I've had every iPhone since the 3gs. Any opinions? Am I just going nuts because I've had to use a flip phone for a week now? Lol

Samsung is the only manufacture that competes with Apple wit specs. It all comes down to TouchWiz and iOS. TouchWiz has improved but some will argue that the "Lag" and "refreshing" of apps are still there but YMMV.

I personally think it's worth giving TW a try. Just make sure to purchase Package Disabler from the Play store and disable the Bloat that comes with ATT devices.

But, if you've been on iOS for years now, it's probably best to stick with Apple.

I got the s6 about 3 weeks before they came out with the new notes or I would have gotten that. it was a bit hard to change over but I was bored to death with ios and some of the bugs like the keyboard bug and bluetooth bugs. my ipad was too old to share some features and my mac mini too. I do miss i message as it was better for pics and video sharing and a few other things. but the screen is so much nicer bluetooth is almost bug free phone calls are very clear and most apps are fine. I have stopped playing games so muc hand I am reading more. games are more limited from what I have seen and the cartoon pics on googleplay really don't let you know what the game is really. there are plus and minus's for both and the battery life is about the biggest. googeleplay overall is nicer the itunes you can choose what you want and choose to send it to whatever device you want too from the webpage. choose what card to pay with at the time too.

This. Once you get the N5, you will go searching for problems and find ways to dislike it instead of enjoying the experience. I'd just stick to iOS since you admitted to being a fanboy.

You all have valid points. Like this is the first year in 4 years that I ha met camped out for the new phone and stuff. I was pumped about the phone but now it's like ehh was it really worth even getting rid of my 6 Plus. I'm kind of bored with Apple but yet I don't know if I should jump ship.

WHat does Package Disabler do exactly that you can't do manually disabling the apps yourself? Genuine question.

As for OP, there's truly no better time to switch to Android than now. Android as an OS has come an insanely long way, and arguably, has surpassed iOS in many/most areas. Likewise, Samsung makes some of the best hardware and offers some of the best features that no one else can do or do as well. The Note 5 is arguably one of the best -- if not the best -- Android device to buy currently.

You'll be in good hands provided you know what to expect. And as others have said, just be aware of the return policy and trial window before committing. It never hurts to be safe.

For me, more functionality, easier to use, more freedom to customize (which isn't just about aesthetics. Customizing the phone to work for you goes a long way and goes far deeper than just looks), more affordability, and exclusive features (compared to iPhones) like wireless charging/fast charging, IR blaster, etc. ...

... are basically what won me over to Android and kept me there.

I also happen to think the S6 is gorgeous compared to the new iPhones (I actually think these are the ugliest iPhones designed to date).

YMMV, but Android is worth giving a shot. Just cover your bases.

You are only allowed to disable certain apps. Most services you are normally not allowed to disable them without root access.

The problem with root access is you put yourself in the position of potentially losing warranty and other features.

Package disabler allows you to disable apps and services not normally allowed. It does this by being knox licensed & compliant. Hence it needs a Samsung device with knox to function.

The developer pays for a license with Samsung Knox and hence the app is a paid app.

Using the app you get full control to disable what you want (and potentially cause yourself a headache if you disable too much) but you will never trip knox and don't need root access.

It's a good app but caution should be used. At least you can easily undo anything you disable wrongly.

I was in basically the same situation a few months ago. I have since decided that I will get an S6 Edge+ as my next phone, while I was planning on getting an iPhone 6 Plus before doing so. My main reason for getting the Samsung is because I already have an iPad, and while I wouldn't have the continuity features, I feel that the phone and the tablet would serve different purposes, rather than having one for on-the-go and one for in-the-home.
I say, if you don't mind the ecosystem of Android, give it a go. You may not like it, but at least it will give you an experience in both phones, so you can decide easier for future phones.

I switched from iPhone 6 Plus to Note 5 and couldn't be happier. In the past TouchWiz has been crappy but it has gotten a lot better. You can theme it etc or you can always install a different launcher (Nova is the best imo)

Is there a list somewhere of all the Samsung stuff that is "safe" to disable? Safe meaning it won't turn off service and stuff I actually need for normal phone function?

Can you disable the aggressive ram management on a GS6 or Note 5? I can get rid of all the apps they have partnered with?

Well my wife went from the iPhone 6 plus to the S6 Edge+ and she has enjoyed it immensely. She was really tired of the apple ecosystem and the staleness of the platform. She says android has come a long way since the last one she had was the galaxy note II. We don't have any platform loyalty so it's whatever floats our boat. I have an unlocked Note 5 Duos so mine is a great deal different from carrier branded devices.

One particular function that is awesome for her that is similar to iPhone's continuity with mac but better is called Samsung sidesync. Samsung sidesync does the same thing like continuity but way more. Not only can you answer calls and messages on your PC desktop but it takes it to a different level. It shows your actual phone homescreen and you can navigate your phone with screen off to do any function you want to do including run any app off your phone on the PC. You can do anything you can do on your phone on your PC which is way better than just what apple gives you with continuity. Even drag and drop things between you pc and phone in realtime. The app will be available for use on OSX soon as well.

Here is my opinion:


Do it. Get the note 5. It is a killer phone and Android is matured into something great. Android M will bring better battery life, fingerprint sensor api integrated into the OS, and Google on tap (which i think will be a killer feature).

I own the note 5 and am moving on to the iPhone 6s plus. There are a few particular work related reason for this.

I say go for it.

IMO the edge is neat, I had the s6 edge.

I think the design of the note 5 is more hand friendly, and the spen functionality is great if you utilize it.

Using the 6 plus as my DD. I did use the Note 5 for a week. Touchwiz has definitely improved alot. I was actually shocked because I was expecting the same ole touchwiz experience. It was the complete opposite. Did not experience any type of lag, stutter, or crashing. This is the first samsung device I was very impressed with. I will be getting the S6 edge+ in the next few weeks.

I did not use the S pen. Plus, the edge+ is a little thinner then the note 5 which I like. I also read the battery life is slightly better on the edge+ then the note 5. I will have to see and test out.
