iPhone 6 unbalanced speakers on iOS 9 beta 2

Hi all,

Have any of you noticed that while playing music under beta 2 that one speaker is louder than the other? I didn't notice this in iOS9 beta 1. Any input is appreciated as I hope one side of my phones speaker hasn't blown out and this is just a software issue. I usually listen to music/NPR in the morning, but I don't think that could be it...I'm sure thats pretty common. Using headphones, the speakers seem balanced.

It's a long existing bug, exists in every version of iOS since iPhone OS 1.

Apple doesn't seem to know a fix.

Sorry, I know it does seem kind of strange. Maybe it's just in my head. I could swear though, in the music i was listening to today, that something was off. whatever.

I don't think you understand my complaint. I know iPhones have one speaker. On songs that I listened to where the music is usually split between a left and right speaker, it sounded as if what usually correlates to the left speaker on the song was louder than what correlates to the right speaker, DESPITE THE FACT that the iPhone has one speaker. I did not experience this on iOS 9 beta 1.

In settings > general > accessibility, there is also a L-R channel
balance (on iOS 8 anyway). Have you checked that's centred?

Thanks for your response. With headphones, my music sounds perfectly balanced. With mono turned on and my headphones plugged in it sounds balanced also. When I unplug my headphones it sounds unbalanced again, mono on or off.

Thanks for your response. Yes I checked and it was centered. When music was playing through my speaker I tried to move it to the extreme left and then extreme right; there was no change in balance, it still sounded unbalanced. With my headphones plugged in, I can move it to the left and right and I definitely notice a difference and it sounds balanced when the knob is centered.

Yes, but I'm listening in stereo, not mono. Furthermore I turned mono on with my headphones in but I didn't notice the sound move to any channel. Same with the speaker.

I'm hoping this is just a beta 2 thing since it was working fine with beta 1. I said it might be in my head earlier but it actually definitely isn't. I recall listening to some music and playing guitar along with it a few days ago (beta 1) and it sounded fine. As soon as I listened w/ beta 2 I definitely noticed a difference. I can't blow out one channel of a speaker can I? (sorry I don't know much of anything about speaker hardware).

So eg, if you're listening to "Jason Derulo - Whatcha Say". You will only heard WHAT WHAT WHAT YOU SAY....
Instead of the stereo swiping effect.

When you turn on mono in accessibility, you are combining both stereo channels into one so both channels will have the same audio.

Without knowing more I would have assumed one speaker would have had both channels mixed down to one. So this is news to me, I don't think OP is trolling nor a complete idiot...

To prove my point, go on youtube and search "left and right speaker", only the left channel is heard over the speaker. Because whenever there's a mono situation, it will always be the Left channel.

OP I would use the above link to check you're definitely not hearing both at equal volume. If you're not it may well be an issue with the beta...

Funny we both thought the same thing. However your test proved you wrong unfortunately. If you're running the iOS 9 beta, ever consider you're having the same issue as OP?

Yeah I never hid that fact, nor does it preclude me from discussing here. In fact, it encourages it. OP was asking whether iOS 9 was causing issues, so I helped by confirming that in iOS 8 it doesn't behave as it does for him. I did that rather than what you did which was replicate his issue on iOS 9 and think it was a feature of all iOS and iPhones since the beginning and making OP feel stupid...
