Amazingly I've been using every iPhone since the 3G days until the 6 & have never had any such issues with home buttons. Maybe I'm just too careful.

To answer your question, as annonymous guy said I'm def. not gonna be drowning the phone in alcohol and I'll buy 99% one which evaporates very fast. If I do manage to mess it up I'll pay Apple to replace the screen along with home button I guess. It's worth a try I think and the noise is so bad I don't want to have it there honestly.
P.S. I'm very careful with all my devices as well, the phone is in pristine condition apart from this which just makes me think it's a defect 'cause as it appears many others have experienced it too :)

You don't need a replacement phone. They will replace the sceeen only for this issue

That'd be amazing too :D Just want to get rid of the crunch :/

This is the #1 reason I was anxiously awaiting ditching my 6s plus for 7 plus. This would happen to me all the time and here's what I would do to get temporary relief from these issues. I'd do this maybe once a week or so. Take a clean microfiber cloth and wet it with rubbing alcohol. Not dripping wet but pretty wet. Push it down on your home button and move it around the home button kind of tracing the inner circle part that could get crud trapped. Do this while continuing to hold the button down. Just kind of go in circles for a bit. This seemed to help keep me sane until the 7 came out.

Yeah as I said, will be trying it out if nothing else works :)
It's annoying isn't it? How long did you have your phone for when you noticed it?
It seems a lot of people got it at the start, but I just noticed it recently and had the phone for more than a year! :/

Mine didn't appear til maybe 6 months or more after some grime had made it's way under there.

Just clean my 6s+ with 75% alcohol and the crunchy sound went away :) (phone is working fine) I did it years ago with my 3GS but I was a little concerned with the 6s+ since it's got touch ID

So I just got back from the Apple store. The staff member was lovely, said that he has seen this before and just believed me he didn't even try pressing the button because anyways the store was crowded he couldn't have heard it. He acknowledged I'm still covered by Australian Consumer Law and sent it in for free screen replacement. Two hours later I came to pick it up everything's perfect no crunchy button or anything like that. So yeah guys, anyone experiencing this problem visit the Genius Bar it definitely is a defect :)

Perfect. A satisfactory resolution there. This is why I never mind paying for Apple products. The after sales support is awesome.

Honestly so happy :D
I couldn't believe how nice and supportive everyone was. They've had like million people in the store, their computer system kept crashing due to some technical problems they've had earlier today and they were managing everything on time. With smile. Which was just amazing to see :)

I'm disappointed. We never learned what was underneath that button.

Haha yeah true :/ I kind of didn't get chance to ask in the end as it really got crazy by the time I came to pick it up. But when I got there first and explained the issue Genius tech did say that he had seen this before and that sometimes it would happen straight away after unboxing or like in my case after some time :D
