There's a separate line for in-store pickup from the main line. I've done it the last two years at two different stores in Dallas, and waited no more than 10 minutes to get to the phone pickup portion either time.
Since I buying the phone outright, will Apple charge my card immediately or once the item is shipped?
If you go with Apple upgrade program or ATT next... next year you'll have to go in the store to trade-up?

I think ATT changed their plans. There's a NXT Year (not sure of name)? plan that is basically the same as NXT12 but you get 24 months to fully pay off. Just FYI as the name will be different.
