I have had an iPhone 7 for 5 days now. I have noticed it overheating on several occasions. I've tried to work out which app (if its apps) that are causing it. It gets uncomfortabley warm in your hand and battery levels drop quickly.

That was what happened to my SE while I was listening to the music at the gym. Went to apple and they ran a test for one minute. The tech said there was a brief moment the temperature raised to 127 degrees. He exchanged it.

Maybe it's the intel radio chip since most are saying AT&T, even though I previously suspected it being possibly different manufacturers for storage like prevaious phones and one brand's 256gb storage is having the issue. But an earlier poster said their's is 32gb.

Have a iPhone7 (128+Sprint) with the same problem. Glad to hear I'm not alone.

It's also asking me to constantly re-login into iCloud and the iTune, but i suspect that's a separate issue.

I don't know if there are any common causes between the two, but my brand-new 6s+ got very hot around the home button, turned into a brick and had to be hard rebooted. There was no pattern or reason for each episode: was not left in the heat, not over-worked, over-charged, ect. Totally random. The good thing was that it never happened again after the first few days to week and a half. It was a widespread issue in the weeks after the 6s launch, but I never remember hearing about a cause or explanation for it. My phone works fine now. Still waiting for 7+ :/

Happened to me today. Phone was hot when I picked it up. Not sure what caused it as my phone was just on the table.

Have you guys checked your data usage? My phone (iPhone 7+ 128GB, iOS 10.0.2) was noticeably hot in my pocket one morning this week. The battery was draining really fast. I plugged in device at work. Data speed was ridiculously slow so I didn't use my phone during the day. Found out in the evening that I had used 15GB of mobile data on System services/Media services. I've switched data off and downloaded a data usage app which monitors WiFi usage and I'm using loads of data on WiFi at home when I am not using the phone. It doesn't tell me where the data is being used (iCloud backup is off and my music library isn't updating). Could be unrelated but thought I would mention it.

My 7 Plus also gets warm sometimes when I use it. Have had it since day one so indexing is out of the question. AT&T 128GB here.

128 GB/ATT/IOS 10.0.1 iPhone7 Plus: Unit thermal'ed out TWICE during setup. In use, the camera flash gets disabled due to overheating. Constantly feels warm. Battery discharged 100%-17% while display off/in standby. Battery says the phone (not music as in another post) was "On screen" for 7 hours of the last 24, except the phone usage doesn't show it. This all BEFORE adding pictures and music, so indexing load should be done after 2 days.

Turn off Hey Siri, Background App Refresh, shutdown apps (not widgets, just FYI), etc.

By day 3 phone is now totally dead. On charger for 3-1/2 hours and seems to be discharging faster than charging. Still red battery on screen when trying to turn on. (Charger and cord works on another iPhone7).

AppleCare wants to "fix". I want replacement. Waiting reply from Apple....

And yes, it's a Jet Black model. None in stock at any store. Apple, so far, says "wait a few months" without your phone.

I'm shocked that you got that response from Apple... As soon as I told them that my phone (same model) was getting "uncomfortably hot," they immediately escalated my call to a supervisor who asked all of these questions about whether I was injured or if there was property damage, battery leakage, etc. She immediately offered to replace the phone. I called Friday and a new one is already on the way (overnight shipping) with Monday arrival date. I couldn't be more impressed with Apple Customer Service... Just my experience.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 7 plus 256G with AT&T and experienced the overheating issue. It would get so hot when I would be browsing iTunes or just after a couple minutes of talking on the phone... My battery was an issue too. Especially compared to my 6S. I contacted Apple the next day and they ran a battery diagnostic which according to them, didn't show anything out of the ordinary. So I hung up and proceeded to make a call, that's when my phone got so hot I couldn't keep it close to my ear at all. So I set up a call back with Apple for the next day. I told them about the heat issue and they were concerned... The final fix that we tried was the restore through iTunes. Remove and replace the OS to the most current which worked like a charm. I can be on my phone continuesly and it doesn't even get warm. I hope this will help anyone out there experiencing a similar issue. It sucks when we spend so much on our gadgets for them to let us down.

I've only had a problem with an iPhone once before (dead pixels), and I've had every iteration. It seems this year my device has every problem discovered this far. I think my phone has only been cold when it's not being charged and hasn't been used in a couple minutes. I'm going to wait a bit and hopefully get it exchanged. It's a jet black AT&T model.

[doublepost=1476659577][/doublepost]I got my iPhone7 256G at AT&T yesterday. This evening when I was out driving around in the car, I got the Temperature screen and the phone shut itself off. I didn't have any apps running. It's only 50 degrees here. I'm pretty distressed, not really excited about having to take it back but I will probably do so tomorrow and will go back to my iPhone6. I am traveling this week, can't really afford to have it happen while I'm out of town.

Thanks for this as I am currently all of a sudden experiencing severe battery drain and overheating issues. I have restored the iPhone and updated to the latest IOS via iTunes. I'm now restoring from my most recent iCloud back up, which was the one I was running on the iPhone when it was getting hot. Hopefully the restore and update will help.

I believe something may be up with the proprietary AT&T 7 models. Why do I say this? I got a 256 GB AT&T 7 that first week. It quickly began to have rapid battery drain and overheating - NOT to the point of turning off, but quite hot. It felt like there was some runaway process. I did all the usual things - quit apps, turned off location services and everything else I could think of. Battery kept draining really fast, and I have owned pretty much every iPhone made, so I think I have some perspective on this. I put it into DFU mode, restored the firmware, and restored the phone. No dice. Took it in to the Apple store. Diagnostics said nothing was wrong, but they eventually swapped it for another phone. I took it home and, although it was kind of a hassle, set it up as a new phone. All seemed okay for a week or so. Now, I also have a business phone with AT&T, which I upgraded, but I was able by this point to buy the SIM-free version, the Verizon version, in other words. I cloned this from the newly set up backup and it has run cool every since. Then, today, it started again on the AT&T version. You could basically watch the battery percentage go down and it was super hot. Took it in again. Because they had swapped it, they would not do anything. I have a friend who knew of the issue and was willing to buy it off of me, anyway. I took a financial hit and he was willing to gamble. I then went and replaced it with the SIM free version. If that is still running cool in a week or two, I'll be completely convinced there's an issue with the AT&T modem. The woman at the Apple store today said "There was a bad batch of AT&T 7-Pluses, so it can happen." Anyway, I'm sick of dealing with this. I normally am pretty happy with Apple's service, but I was on hold today for 30 minutes. I made a Genius Bar appointment, then got disgusted. When I went to cancel it, the website was broken and would not let me. I tried to chat with somebody online about it, but they left me spinning. I'm not usually so negative and complaining, but I am grouchy from all of this.

quick update - it's only been one day, so I'll monitor and post again down the road, but battery life has been dramatically better with the SIM free version than the two previous AT&T versions.

Apple replaced mine. They tested it and acknowledged the over hear skewers is had over a couple of weeks. Apparently they thought it was normal but was prepared to swap for a new unit. My new phone doesn't overheat at all, so all good

Starting to think mine is having issues with overheating.

I'm new to iPhone so let's say I go to an Apple store and they agree to exchange w/e, I know I'm out of the usual 14 day window had mine a month tomorrow.

Am I right in thinking they'll be refurbs? What condition are these refurbs, my iPhone is scratch free etc wouldn't want to exchange it for a phone that looks battered

Well my phone was out of the 14 day period but obviously still under warranty, plus I'm on the IUP so have Apple Care by default also.

I'd suffered three thermal warnings before I managed to get in store. Whilst in store the phone got really hot. They tested it and felt it was still within the accepted threshold but agreed to replace. As it was a 7+ JB they had to order me one in. It arrived a few days later. In the meantime I was recommended to restore the phone to factory settings and re-install my apps manually instead of doing a restore from iCloud, just to see if it helped. It didn't.

So I exchanged it for the one they ordered. Was it refurbished? I don't know, but I checked it over and was happy there was no scratches or other marks. It's been perfect ever since.

The only thing I have noticed, which others have reported on is the phone phone can make a cracking noise if held in landscape mode and slightly twisted.

Thanks plus I noticed it has the coil whine, but I'll try get in today and see what they say.

Guessing I'm best booking a genius bar appointment
