The difference between the iPhone 7 Plus (188 Grams) and XR (194 Grams) is a matter of 6g. The iPhone 7 Plus is really not that much lesser of weight, unless you’re talking about the (4.7) inch iPhone 7, obviously that’s considerably lighter, because it’s significantly smaller.

IMO anything bigger/heavier than an 8 isn’t acceptable. For my dad anything bigger than a Galaxy S2 isn’t acceptable. Preferably only an SE, like he now uses.

I have a phone with size similar to XR (Huawei Mate 10 Pro - 4mm taller, 2mm narrower), and an iPhone 6s (non plus), and from sheer comfort point of view, I like handling the 6s better. It's what a phone should be sized.

Years ago, everything above 5" was considered a phablet. What the heck happened??

A 6s size phone that’s bezeless it going to be at least 5.5” display. That’s perfect.

Yes, with this physical size.

Xs for me is perfect size wise , but I'm not paying 1100$ (here this is the price) for a phone with 64gb memory, notch and not top of the line camera.

Neither 1100 nor 64 GB are the biggest hurdles. It’s just that at this price point I’d rather upgrade once every 2-3 years than every fall.

If I could buy new at 800ish all inc and sell for like 500ish after 1 yr, then 300-350 a year is perfectly reasonable however.

But at USD 1100+ it’s going to be once every 2-3 years except if something exceptional happens in a given year, like 5G, 50% bat life inc, etc.

XR seems bulky. How do you cope with the huge size difference? It seems pretty wide.

I came from an iPhone 7 Plus so the size seems great to me. I don’t have big hands either. I think it’s a matter of what phone you’re coming from.

I am talking about the 4.7 inch. Xr is incomparable with a plus flagship with its much narrower screen (and screen width is all that matters for consumption. A little width makes images and videos much larger).

Actually the weight difference between the 8 plus and 7 plus feels significant even if it is few grams. I sold my 8 plus as at was too heavy/bulky. However, the 7 plus I could live with, but I went smaller now with the 7. If the X models become non bulky and with a competitive notch size similar to the industry I would consider.

Just switched from 7 to XR last Sunday. No comparison just from the Face ID feature alone. I’m very happy with mine.

I really love the combination of my s10 plus and iPhone 7. For me the iphone 7 or iphone x/xs is the perfect size for me in terms of apple. But that's just me.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!

Media consumption, and more and more people only owning and using phones instead of tablets and computers.

For me, I hate it, but my XR size is where I ‘need’ to be, I still have my 6S and it’s such an amazing size, but these days I prefer my XR keyboard (most of my comments on this site are from my XR), and it has zoomed screen mode.

The XS would have been possibly my choice by it lacks zoomed screen mode.

So although a bit of a pain size wise, it’s not annoying enough to not enjoy the fact I can stick to just one device where ever I go.
My plan still is to upgrade to the XR next year so long as it has an OLED as heavily rumoured and no bigger then the current model.
Oh and so long as it gets a Qualcomm modem... really not impressed with the Intel in my XR.

My only complaint about XR is it is heavy. Naked or with ultra thin case, i think its okay but if you add a thick case it becomes uncomfortable to type long sentences...

Doesn’t seem to be an issue if you’re using two hands typing, am I right? Also, consider using dictation, it’s much more efficient and quicker in terms of actually V.S. typing a text/email. Siri is proficient enough with dictation if you talk slower and annunciate your words clearly, it works rather well.

Not sure about you, but my phone rests on both of my pinkies when I type and it can get uncomfortable after a while due to the weight so yeah even with both hand typing... You can hold it parallel to the ground so you don’t need to rest it on your pinkies or use a popsocket/ringholder/etc though.... can’t say about dictation since it doesn’t support my language irl

I wouldn't but then again I'm not the techie that needs the latest and greatest. I just bought my wife a brand new in box 7 plus. Hmmm...it runs every app she needs. Checks email. She can search the web. Takes some pretty amazing pics. The funny thing with pics/camera is it is my belief that the vast majority of users probably never look at their pics off of an iPhone size screen anyway so who cares about all these upgrades? Even on a mac book screen can you really tell a giant difference. The 7 will do everything effectively the x's will do at half price.

XR is an advanced phone with larger battery, do your own math

This doesn’t make any sense what you said. The iPhone XR is not ‘any more advanced’ over the iPhone 7, it offers different capabilities such as Face ID, with an OLED display, but it doesn’t mean it’s more advanced than the iPhone 7 aside from a different processor. They all accomplish the exact same tasks, just in a different method. Every current iPhone Model is technically ‘advanced.’

I agree, the Xs is the perfect size, similar to the iPhone 6s I left behind, but with a much bigger screen.

What would be your definition of "more advanced" then? I would have thought the iPhone XR is a "More advanced" iPhone compared to the 7.

Yes, thank you. I meant to reserve the OLED for the XS.

What would be your definition of "more advanced" then? I would have thought the iPhone XR is a "More advanced" iPhone compared to the 7.

My definition of what makes the XR/XS more advanced over the iPhone 7 is simply the processor. The A12 processor v.s. the A10 Fusion is capable of smart HDR and 60 FPS for gaming, that’s really what it comes down to. But the consumer doesn’t care about processors, am I right? Nor do they really understand the differences between those. The only thing you’re really purchasing that makes the iPhone XR ‘more advanced’, is Face ID. But both face ID _and_ touch ID are advanced technology, it’s just different ways of unlocking your phone. All these phones execute the same things, which you have to put yourself in the mindset of what the consumer wants from a smart phone, which is simply likely just for social media/communication/checking e-mails, ect.

Now, saying that the iPhone XR is ‘more advanced’ over the iPhone 7, ask that same question to any average consumer outside a tech site, and I guarantee you they probably won’t be able to tell you what makes it ‘more advanced’. That’s really the whole point I was trying to convey here.
