In 2017, Apple launched the 8/8+/X, and there was some debate between 8/8+ buyers and X buyers on the forum.

In July 2018, it seems like the acrimony has died down, and people seem pretty happy with their choices. We are now used to the idea of a range of iPhones being released every year, and everyone being able to pick the model that works best for them.

To the 8/8+ owners, are you happy with buying the model that wasn't the flashiest and newest available? 8 and 8+ sales have seemed to be good, with the 8 being the best selling smartphone in May. Carriers seem to have sold a lot of 8s and 8+s, and I am seeing more of them (along with the X) in the wild.

For me, the 8+ has been great as I have enjoyed the battery life and wireless charger. Speed and performance have been excellent, and it is a pleasure watching YouTube and other videos on the screen. I should have opted for more storage, and I do admit the size gets a bit unwieldy (I had a regular 6s before). In September, I am considering a ton of options, including upgrading to the X+, next version of the X, the LCD iPhone or even downgrading to an 8. But I am happy having owned the 8+ for a year.

I just posted in another thread about this very thing, as much as I love my 8+, I'm thinking about a smaller phone this year. The phone itself is fantastic, my favorite iPhone so far, but at times and in certain circumstances it can seem big. I'm thinking about this years X. Just gonna to wait and see what Apple brings to the table this year.

Really enjoyed my Gold 8 Plus since launch day. The ONLY reason I didn’t wait for the X was that it wasn’t released in Gold...and I wanted the Gold Apple Watch to match. But hey, that’s just my preference. I’ve no clue what Apple may launch this fall but colors will most likely be making that choice for me once again...

Very happy with my 8 Plus. The only complaint is at times I struggle to hold it when I need to use it one handed.

Exactly one reason why I opted for the 10. Went from a 7+. Was difficult to use one handed. My hands are smaller so it was impossible to text. I liked the Plus models because of the better battery life, bigger screen and the better camera. I’m really satisfied with the 10. Can use it one handed, has OLED, which means better battery life. It’s better than my 7+, and that had great battery life too, on iOS 10 and 11. The camera was awesome on the X on iOS 11 but fixed the front facing portrait mode issue in iOS 12 beta. I was really interested in the 8+ but then I held the 10 in my hand and loved that it’s the size of the 8 but the screen is even bigger than the 8+. I don’t regret my change of mind and purchase one bit. But, everyone has different needs and options.

Best 2 features of the 8+ for me are the fingerprint scanner and the battery life.

I got home from work the other day with 80% battery left with admittedly light use. But still, that was 10 hours off charge. The standby time on this phone is crazy.

I did try the X for a while and found the face unlock not as easy as Touch ID. Looking at the rumours I’m going to have to embrace Face ID for the next round of iPhones ;)

Why is everyone so adamant about 1 hand use?

Because you have those who try to adjust in more comfortable positions while using the phone one-handed. It can be difficult to manipulate because it is unwieldy and large, and after a while it actually becomes fatiguing holding it one-handed when resting on your pinky as well.

I love my 8. Yes, the small regular 8. It is great to use it with one hand, it runs really smooth and it makes the perfect value-for-money balance for me.

This. And yes.

The X has a roughly same size, but, was not interested in OLED, FaceID, Animojis. Price vs features of the X was not a appealing to me. And X was a gen 1 device, maybe not fair to describe it like that, but how I felt about it. Since I upgrade every three years, can wait out to see where the X-like phones will go down the road and make an educated decision then.

Traded in a 7+ that was having some issues. Purchased a SIM FREE 8+ RED. Could not be happier.

Great screen, battery, speed. What more could you want. Also, big fan of touch ID. will keep this as long as possible.

Why is everyone so adamant about 1 hand use?
One handed use is rather common among middle aged, multi-tasking types like myself, i.e. a phone in one hand and, depending on the time of day, a pen or a drink in the other.
As a one-thumb texter, I often take a quick glance, maybe a short reply, then put the phone down again. The SE was perfect for that until I needed readers to see the letters. Once the font was too small to see (or my arms too short), I got the 8. Oh the joys of aging...

Why is everyone so adamant about 1 hand use?

I’ve asked myself this a lot over the years. I get the “too big for my pants” argument (somewhat), but as someone with small fingers who has only owned Plus-sized iPhones, the one-handed use argument makes me laugh a bit... but people do have different use cases. For example, I’m not a big texter and I usually wait to respond to the texts I receive if I’m distracted otherwise and it’s a non-emergency. I can understand that for others, texting is their main way to communicate, and response time may be critical.

Tried the X and didn't like it for a number of reasons. Went back to an old Galaxy 8 to wait and see what September brings. My wife has an iPhone 8+ which I use occasionally. Right now, based on the rumors and speculation, I'm probably going to buy an iPhone 8 when they drop in price after the new releases. Expecting to save probably $100 and maybe they'll bump from 64 to 128 as a base.

Love my 8. If I want movies, I'll copy them to my 6+ that has VLC. And a proper headphone jack.

Quite happy with my 8 Plus. Definitely won’t be upgrading in 2018, and probably won’t need to in 2019 either.

Went from a 6 to an 8+. Am completely happy with my decision.

I kept hearing how gigantic and bigly the plus sized phones were. But when I received my gold 8 Plus, it didn't seem THAT huge to me. And I like the bigger screen size to type on. I make so many fewer typing errors now. I don't think I could go back to a smaller screen size.

And I like keeping my Touch ID. It's still the fastest way to use Apple Pay, IMHO. And it works pretty much 99% of the time. Wireless charging is nice too. I thought it was pretty much a gimmick at first. But it definitely is more convenient at times. I like the camera upgrade over my old 6 as well.

Pretty much completely satisfied with the 8 Plus. Unless something knocks my socks off this September, I will keep it for at least another upgrade cycle.

Absolutely. I got the 8+ and my wife held out for the X, so i see both regularly. I have no regrets with the 8+.
