I prefer the Plus models over the 4.7 inch. I can't stand smaller screen devices. My hands average size by the way.

People I know that have gone Plus have never looked back. I am average/small size, I could use it, but the ease of the smaller form factor works better for me.

No surprise there. I'd say a very high percentage of the people who buy a Plus will never go back to the smaller screen.

It'd be like going from a 6/7/8 back to a 5.

Yuck.

The longer/narrower screen size is one of the reasons I passed on the X. I'd say it's a safe bet we see an X Plus next year.

But at least the iPhone 8 Plus is the same . Talk time is the same for both phones. Look up a few post and you see The included info

Just to be clear, the OP is asking about the 8 vs X (not 8 Plus). According to Apple specs, talk time for the 8 is only 14 hours, while the X is 21 hours.

I know that, but if everyone read my post I said, at least the 8+ has the same battery life

Three areas many phone users focus on -

Battery life
Camera
Display

X beats the 8 in all of those. Not to mention 1GB more RAM although it will be pushing more resolution than before. The X is only about 5mm taller than the 8 and has a 1.1" bigger display. Imagine the smaller Pixel but making the screen taller.

No point getting the 8. It's already 2017 and still only has 2GB of RAM when Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact has 4. Only 326ppi or same as an iPhone 4 from 2010. No Telephoto. Worst battery life of the entire group with sub-2000 mAh capacity.

Don't be duped spending another $700+ in 2017 for Android flagship specs from 2012. X is the better option for $300 more and it's not much bigger than the 8 if the Plus size bothers you too much. Who doesn't want to flaunt that newer design?

My biggest qualm with the X is the RAM as the iPad Pro already has 4. It feels Apple is stingy with it but not with storage capacity of late. But other than that, it's a much better option than any iPhone with below 3GB of RAM and lacks Telephoto.

6 Plus is already suffering because Apple was stingy with RAM for a 5.5"/1080p iPhone back in 2014. But X won't suffer as quickly as the 2G/3G, 4, and 6/6 Plus all did. Hardware and software is mature enough to be longer future-proofed.

Yeah, but OP makes no mention of the 8 Plus, only the 8. Don’t know about others, but I would never consider the 8+ or any plus model. I prefer the smaller form factor of the 8 and the X. I can’t use the Plus models comfortably with one hand.
Wouldn’t own a smaller one, less tech, and screen size is a joke

I dunno about the less tech part, the X is the only model that has OIS on both cameras, OLED display on most of the face, dot projector, IR, all the true depth goodness, wider aperture rear camera... though though not having TouchID, there is more tech. Now maybe if they came out with an X Plus things would be different, but as it exists now smaller has more tech.

Performance should be pretty close although I'd imagine clocked slightly up for the X. I would consider the screen, Face ID, camera, and overall design to be the deciding factors. If you don't care for any of that, go for the 7 as it is the better buy right now over the 8. The 7 and 8 are essentially the same.

I mentioned that possibility in another thread, i.e., the X SOC running a bit quicker (maybe having slightly different thermal efficiency... not sure of the display tech has any effect).

Yea they may need to make an adjustment to make sure everything is on par. Either way, performance should generally be the same.

Much like a 5.7L and 6.4L are the same.

Depends on a number of things. Horsepower, weight, etc. In day to day use though, you're not going to notice the difference. Same as a 7 Plus to an 8 Plus.

Complete BS.

My boss has a 7 Plus... and the difference is OBVIOUS... starting with the display. The 8 Plus looks a lot better... at least according to my eyes. What's it called? TrueTone?

Anyways... not going to continously debate this with you because in the end I don't care what phone you get. Please don't continue to preach the 8 being the same as the 7.

It isn't... in a number of ways... at least not in the same way the 8 is the same as the X... (processor, storage)

It's just a very minor difference between the 2. Anyone can see that. People are constantly looking for advice and in my eyes, the 7 is the better buy unless you need to have wireless charging. You can get some really good deals and for the most part it will perform just as good as an 8.

the difference between engines depends on much more than their displacement. i have seen a 1.8l volkswagen engine which beat a 3.0l toyota when two college classmates raced them on an empty road. displacement is only a part of the equation.

Yep... I know what you mean... I get ricers wanting to race my Challenger all the time.

We can agree on this. The 8 is a worthy upgrade from a 6s or older like I did. Not so much from the 7 IMO.

Still... I saw the difference in the screens... and loading apps when I had the phones side by side. Doesn't mean the difference is worth the upgrade, but it was still there.

Cheers.

i believe it is called truetone. i compared the display on my 6s plus to an 8 plus at the apple store and there is a huge difference which i would attribute to truetone as the resolution is the same from the 6 plus through the 8 plus. im sold on the x though as i like the larger display on the smaller size. while i like the size of my 6s plus it is awkward in my pocket sometimes during longer flights.

Yea I'd say from a 6S, sure. I just see a lot of good deals on a 7 that I would consider that if choosing between a 7 and 8.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm one of the people that likes the Plus size phone... big hands, can use it one handed... it's just the perfect size.

The X would be a downgrade IMO because I don't want a longer narrow screen. I'm confident though we'll see an X Plus next year and I'd definitely be interested in that.

2015 5.7L... had been wanting one for years but wasn't a fan of the older design that was based off the 1970 model. The 2015 was the first year of the new design based off the 1971 model as well as a new interior.

Sold.

BTW... the car was red with chrome rims when I bought it. All the flat black you see I added afterwards.

i love the size and everything of my 6s plus but sometimes it is awkward when it is in my pocket on long flights. i know that it is a little over a quarter of an inch narrower so hopefully i am not too dissatisfied with it. someone on this site posted that the x is about the size of the samsung galaxy s8 which my wife has and after some research i confirmed this to be true. the s8 is a decent size phone.
if there is an x plus next year i will be getting that as well.
nice car! i currently have a charger srt 392 with a 6.4l i believe it is a 2015 as well and i love it. i got it when i was stationed in sc but now that i am in nj i hope it doesnt snow. my only gripe is that its black and when i go visit my family in nc or my wifes family in pa people think its an unmarked cruiser on the interstate so they slow down

Other than the specs needed to support the front-facing camera tech and Face ID, is there any difference in power between the two?

I am leaning towards getting the 8 because of the price difference, but if the 8 is already behind in specs, I would have to reconsider. Looking on Apple's website, it looks like the two phones internals are pretty much identical except for the Face ID tech inside. Does anyone know anything different, or is my observation correct?

Thanks!
The X has a a gig more of RAM, minor camera advantages, a taller OLED display w/ notch, animojis, future apps designed for FaceID and 2 hours more battery life.

The 8 has a home button and a symmetrical LCD display. The 8 is also smaller, thinner, and lighter.

The 8 could be slightly faster than the X because it will only have to push a 720p display, compared to a 1440p display.

The choice is yours! I chose the 8. Couldn’t live with the notch.

Thank you for all the responses.

I'll probably end up going with the 8 Plus. For me personally I don't think the improvements in the camera will justify the additional $200 for what I use it for.
