You do know that the iPhone 7 Plus 256gb is $969 right?

If apple was your company, would you price the 7s plus 256gb model as the same price as the iphone 8 64gb?

You are aware The iPhone 7 Plus 256 GB is over $1000 after taxes? That's the maximum price for this unit offered at this storage tier would be $969.00.

The iPhone 8 OLED 64 GB model starting price point should Be approximately $969.00 and follow suit upwards with a 256 GB model being offered in two size variants. (Maybe three storages).

I "predict" as follows: (Please don't question my pricing, it's merely speculation).

  • iPhone 7S:
$649 for 32 GB
$749 for 128 GB
$849 for 256 GB

  • iPhone 7S Plus:
$769 for 32 GB
$869 for 128 GB
$969 for 256 GB

  • iPhone 8 (Untitled OLED model).
$969 for 64 GB
$1129 for 256 GB

My guess is that the iPhone 8 will only be offered in 256GB and 512GB sizes and will go for $100 more than a 7S+ with the same storage. I would be surprised if the base mode iPhone 8 started over $1000 but I could see the 512GB version running ~$1200.

If they did it with the iPad Pros I don't see why they wouldn't follow suit with this "Pro" iPhone model. Especially since the 7S/7S+ are going to be the entry level / budget minded iPhones.
You can't compare an iPad Pro storage capacity with an iPhone...

Sure you can. The LTE iPad Pros hardware aren't hugely different compared to an iPhone. I don't think we'll see a 64GB iPhone 8. That means the most likely storage options are 256GB and 512GB.

I think Apple will offer a 64 GB base Model for the OLED model and 32 GB base for the '7S.' Its highly likely the 256 GB model will return. But I don't believe Apple will offer a 512 GB iPhone. I think the iPad is a totally different entity offering a storage capacity at that amount. Mainly being the iPad can be a main computer for some and It may need to hold a lot of media, photos, intensive applications, etc.

Bought a 7 Plus last year and I am feeling sad that it's just too expensive for me to get :(
I suspect I’m going to be priced out too. I’ve generally upgraded each year and either sold or handed down my phone. But I’m expecting the 8 to be one step too far for me. Unless those lottery numbers come up...

does one need 512Gb

While I won't be after a 512 model (if they did have one) instead a 128 or 256 depending on price, I want the space for the camera. I do prefer using a DSLR but at times I just don't want to lug it around, wanting to try use a phone only the next time I go on holiday, also the supposed 4k60 combined with a gimbal.

I don't have lossless music files, but they could take a large chunk of space for people with big libraries. Also places with horrible phone data limits and internet with poor speeds, they may just want to keep everything local on the phone.

No 128GB in either 7s + or 8 no upgrade for me am afraid. So far my usage is about 50GB or so; 'am not falling for their trickery this time

serious question:

what the heck does one need 512Gb storage on a smartphone?

That's an insanely large amount of storage. Even 256 GB of storage is a massive amount of storage. Somebody would have to have hundreds of applications, 4K videos, photos, music, etc. Even then, 512 GB would be difficult to fill for an iPhone.

I was planning on replacing my iPhone this year as I have an iPhone 6. Currently I'm not having any problems with the 6 so it is not a case of outright failure that was making me look at upgrading.

Usually I try to buy the best version of a phone available, figuring it will hold value and usefulness for the longest time. But this year that means a $1000.00 plus phone cost.

I have read that Apple plans on having every phone in 2018 be an OLED phone, and that the manufacturing costs will also be going down. So potentially, a 2018 iPhone 9 will be significantly cheaper with one more year of new features than the iPhone 8 and the 9 could cost less money, or get a much more powerful phone/memory/features for the same cost. My iPhone 6 will still run IOS 11, and as I said, I'm not having any problems with it and usually there isn't that big of an improvement from one year to the next. But this time there are signs that there will be, especially in the cost department.

I realize that A) its somewhat a matter of personal opinion when to upgrade and B) there is no guarantee that the 2018 phone will be any cheaper, and C) I may not be able to actually get an iPhone 8 this year because of supply, but I am interested in how others view this and if they would wait or buy?

As far as price point goes, make no mistake Apple will not charge less next year as that would be an insult to this years buyers
In the 10 years the iPhone has been around it never has gone down in price
Enough said!
