No idea why because I have an 8 and it runs iOS 16 fine. Perhaps your battery health is depleted and requires a replacement?

Probably. Battery health is at 85% so it's starting to degrade.
Can you tell how it sucks? I’m on a 2020 SE running iOS 16 and it’s good. Then again, I was on an iPhone 5 running iOS 10 until this January.
It's sluggish, but as someone else mentioned in this thread, it's probably from the degraded battery. I'll have Apple replace the battery when the health gets below 80%.
