Eh...my 6s Plus hasn't been so fine on iOS 11.

A 6s Plus is a fine phone to hold onto for another year, though. I don't want to hold onto mine for much longer, though, because the battery can only charge to 70% of its original capacity and I don't want to put more money into this particular phone.
I tried the 8+ for a week not much difference from my 6S+. Yes camera was great but the the 6 ain’t bad either. I’m not a pro in taking pictures so really don’t care how bright whites, blue and reds are. And it was a little heavier which didn’t bother me but other people don’t like the extra weight. My 6 battery was bad so I replaced it, wiped it clean installed 11.02 and now it runs great. 8 went back to the Apple store (there were more employees walking around then customers) which the lady that did my refund told me some people are returning the 8. Some are waiting for the X, others are happy with there 6 or 7 compared to the 8 couldn’t justify spending 900 bucks on the same outside design and waiting till next September and see where Apple goes with these phones which aint that far off the way time flys now. I personally think Apple shot themselves in the foot this year with the 8 and X.
My new Battery on the 6S+ lasts now all day and then some no freezing or slow apps coming up. Worth it to spend 100 bucks and save the 900 for next September. By the time most people get the X Apple will be announcing 2018 models.

Yeah...no. I'm not hanging onto my 6s Plus and putting more money into it while pinning my hopes on something decent next September. By that point, the 6s Plus won't be worth as much as it is now, and I'm already not looking forward to spending $900+ on another phone. Who even knows what the price points will be for the phones at that point, especially if people show that they are willing to spent $1000 on a phone to the point that it's backordered for weeks or months? And there's no guarantee that Touch ID will be back, and I'm sure the garbage iOS notification system will stay the same. Those are bigger deals to me than the exterior physical design.

I'm not a photography expert, either, but that's why I want the better camera of the 8 Plus. I take lots of low light pics, so the camera system of the 8 Plus would be of benefit to me.

Of course, I may end up with a Pixel 2 instead. We'll see.

If you are coming from a 6S, I wouldn't upgrade to the 8 Plus. It's not much of an upgrade. If you like the X, that is your best phone choice on the iOS side right now. If you can wait, that's an option too.

You must be talking about the 7. It's a huge upgrade over the 6s... in terms of both battery life and speed not to mention the buffs to things like the camera and display.

It was a huge improvement. I pondered the idea of keeping the 6s Plus, but having to charge every 4-5 hours at work while streaming music and/or video was what sealed the deal for me. The 8 Plus lasts all day leaving me 40-50% life. A big difference that I even made a thread about.

iPhone X for the best dual-OIS'ed cameras and the luxury to use your face for Animoji and Scene Clips. Not to mention the form factor all this get's packed in.

I chose the 8 Plus because dual OIS/Animoji/Face ID just aren't important to me. I also wanted a bigger/wider screen without a notch as well as Touch ID.

I'll definitely see what the Xs has to offer next year... but until then I'm perfectly good using a phone that uses the same processor as the "flagship" X.

Another reason I swapped the 6s Plus for the 8 Plus.

Verizon gave me $275 in trade... pretty good for a 2 year old phone with horrid battery life (and a fading ear speaker that required me to use my bluetooth headset for calls)...

Had I held on to it another year I'd have gotten even less.

I'd have really been in a fix had the X been the only upgrade option this year... because I'm just not interested in it. I'd have had to consider the 7 (that I passed on last year) or something else.

The 8 Plus was the perfect fit for my needs.

If the OP wants/needs a phone now, then the 8 Plus is their best bet. If they're patient and willing to accept they may not receive the X until next year, then opt for that device.

Hmmmm, I just upgraded and notice a huge difference especially with the camera. It's like night and day.

That’s cool, I’m glad you like it. I’m sure it’s a great camera, just wouldn’t be enough for me to upgrade. Just my opinion.

It wouldn't be enough for me to upgrade either. The camera had no factor at all in my decision.

What did was the battery life of my current 6s Plus... as I've said... horrid. Now I've got a new phone that is cosmetically the same as what I had... with improvements everywhere from the battery to the Touch ID to the display.

I see the difference every time I look at the display... the speed difference every time I load an app... and the battery difference when I charge every 24-36 hours instead of every 5.

The camera? Haven't used it much. :)

My girlfriend has a 6s, I tested out the 8 Plus in store. Just didn’t feel like a huge jump to me. Not sure why people can’t accept this, it’s my opinion. Just giving my advice.

Your opinion is great.... I think if you used it for 12 days like I have you'd see a difference though. :)

I upgraded from a 7+ to an 8+.
It feels like a big upgrade.

Camera improvements are noticeable , especially when viewing images on the computer.

I was not trying to be rude. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I honestly was not planning to upgrade but decided to pass my paid for 6s to my daughter. The camera compared to my 6s is very impressive and enough of an upgrade in that department alone.

Nah I didn’t think you were rude. I was only speaking from what I do in that situation. My girlfriend has the 6s and I am getting her an X. The only think she liked about the 8 over the X was the gold color.

So sprint is giving me 5o percent off the iPhone 8 plus. I usually do lease which work great for me. 64gb is enough for me. But I want the x but my monthly bill will be more expensive. Adding the 8 plus will cost me $18 more my monthly bill. I want the x, but I figure with the extra money I could get a new laptop. Any options?

It's tough to choose now since pixel 2 and xl were announced........hmm..........hmm....

Money no object = X

On a budget and can make do with 64gb = 8

On a budget but need 256 = still stretch to a X, by the time you’ve spent 949 you’d just as well go all in on the top model for 1149

8+ if you want maximum usable screen space. The X might look like it has a bigger screen on paper, but a lot of it is dead space in most apps.

X if you want the best screen quality and better portability (and animoji).

If you have a 6S or later model, I’d highly recommend to just stick with that. It’s still a good phone. If in doubt, keep it on iOS 10 until Apple releases iOS 11.1.

Well, I just received my 8+ yesterday so I admit I'm still on the new-phone-high, so to speak, but i love this phone! Coming from a regular sized 6 I was worried about how I would adapt to the size, but it's just like when I went to the 6 from a 5s, within a couple of hours the new size just felt normal and my old phone felt small. I know that many have come to hate the bezels and the "old" design, but I actually still think it looks really sleek and the bezels don't bother me at all. I'm actually really surprised how comfortably it still fits in my pocket, and while one-handed use is undeniably more cumbersome, it's actually not as bad as I had feare.

All things considered, I'm actually really happy with this phone. I very much doubt that I'll have any regrets when the X comes out. No matter what phone people choose or don't choose this year, I hope that they find themselves as pleased as I am, and remember, never try to make anyone else feel bad for choosing differently than you. The beauty of having choice is that hopefully we can all end up with a phone that we like. :)

The X is much cooler and exciting, but I chose the 8 Plus for this upgrade cycle. I like touchID, it has more useable screen real estate, overall same cameras, same processor, $200 cheaper, and the aluminum is a bit more scratch resistant than the stainless steel on the X is.

Can't go wrong with either though. It's nice that Apple gave us 2 solid choices this year. Maybe I'll early upgrade my iUP in April and get the X, which I assume will be more readily available and have most of the kinks worked out.

If you are fine with a dated design, yet really solid internals, stick with the 8 Plus. If you prefer the newest and best tech, go with the X. There is no wrong choice though.

I’ve been buying tech gadgets for long enough to realize that “newest and best” is fleeting at best and that everything ends up looking dated sooner rather than later.

Looking dated isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. I could easily make a huge list of dated designs that I think look much much better than modern designs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

These days I tend to go for whatever gives me the best experience for my $$$ not only right now, but also for the next couple of years. The 8+ fits that bill. The X is more than capable of that as well, but I just don’t see the value in paying that much extra and living with the notch compromise just to get rid of something that never really bothered me to begin with. I just don’t see those bezels. I really don’t. They’re black and vanish when I use the device. When off, the whole thing just looks like a big black slab with rounded corners. I don’t see the bezels since it’s all black. My old 6+ fits easily in my pockets, so the 8+ is no different. Size is not an issue to me. Furthermore, I know from personal experience that the “new fresh look” won’t last for more than a month and I would want to keep that device for 3 years, so what’s the point? Is a very short term excitement value. Better save some money for something else that makes more of a difference to me.

But that’s just me.

Man I'm so torn. I 100% agree with your thinking about the fleeting feeling of latest and greatest. I don't even care for FaceID either. However, coming from a 6 with a battery case i now realize that:
1. i need long battery life. So naturally, the 8 is no go.
2. the 6 with a battery case is too big for me, so, naturally, the 8 plus is no go. My wife has the 8 plus right now, and I love it, but it is just a bit too big for me...

now im finding myself having to spend $999 (!) on a phone just to have it last all day with a decent one-hand usability? crazy. When I bought my 6 I thought to myself, this is the last time I'll be spending $700 on a phone, next cycle, I'm going cheaper. Turns out I may have to go the other way around..
