I used a friend's new iPhone 8+ last night at the bar and I have to say the improved portrait modes are amazing!! In March, when we all get our iPhone x's we'll have an amazing camera in our phones.

In what way? Other than true tone.

What I meant by underrated, is that's not talked about enough. I think there are some differences judging from side-by-side comparison's with the iPhone 7. I think Apples LCD displays are some of the best in the industry.

The screen on my 8-plus is perfect, and the photos have been ridiculously nice. Hopefully the OLED in the X can maintain the same standard of color accuracy as the latest gen IPS 8 Plus panels.

I can't understand if they added portrait lightening to the back of the 8 + way not add it to the front. Seems like a marketing move to sell the X. Clearly it's just software same as portrait mode

The
. The 8 doesn’t have the new retina hd. That’s the x

Incorrect. This quote was direct from Apple's website describing the Display on the iPhone 8. Here is the link and then scroll down where it describes the display.

Furthermore, the iPhone X is described as a "Super Retina HD display."

https://www.apple.com/iphone-8/

"All‑New Display
A Retina HD display that’s more beautiful than ever. With True Tone, a wide color gamut, and 3D Touch."

It’s the same screen as the 7.

Wrong. It is not. Nor did you factor Tru-Tone either. See Post 17 for reference and link attached. Point was, Apple themselves even stated the Retina display is new regarding the iPhone 8, Regardless of what you believe is or is not, it was their direct words used on their own website.

That’s marketing. It’s the same display apart from True Tone.

I’m not being negative, it’s a great display, but it is the same one as the iPhone 7.

I understand the marketing aspects. But you stated it it was "The same display as the 7", it's not, it includes Tru-Tone as well.

"Tru-Tone" is just something very common in other phones, and it doesn't affect the display quality. It is still the exact same screen as it used to be like..4 years ago!?
