I received my iPhone Air black on Friday noon. So using it for about 2.5 days now. I love it, It just feels amazing. Reminds me of the 12 mini - due to the handiness, besides the large display - and the X - because it really feels like future.

With exceptions made for 12 and 13 Mini, I’m usually a Pro buyer. However returned last year 16 Pro and used my standard 15 company phone as single device, it just didn’t felt any better or special. Compared to the 15, the Air’s battery life is more than satisfying.

Oh, and I don’t give a sh** about the cam. I’m not going to shoot any Hollywood blockbusters with my phone. Actually I prefer one single lens, multiple always came ridiculous to me. As long as I can take some decent pu$$y shots (my cat of course) I’m happy.

So all in all, it feels like one of the best iPhones ever. I value design, built quality and handiness. Loved the Minis, but their non-Pro appearance was a downside. There’s still room for improvement: reduce the bezels, make it even a little smaller, get rid of the camera plateau while keeping it the same depth.

Just got mine earlier today. I had ordered a pro max got it and just hated the weight so returned it. I used to use Ultra's and Pro Maxes till last year when I switched to the 16 pro due to constant hand fatigue, but always wanted a slightly larger screen and voila , the Air!

I get what people are saying about it feeling premium but also feeling like you are only holding a screen. It really is amazing and exactly what I wanted. Tested out the cameras, super sharp great images. I won't miss the ultra wide or telephoto as I barely used them. I use the 1.5 and 2 x mostly for product pics with my phone for work.

The speaker sounds perfectly fine to me when browsing or on YouTube, just slightly less loud. Notifications however are super loud LOL.

Am really happy with my decision and look forward to them hopefully keeping this design and refining it over the years

Love the Air

My only disappointment? Apple’s claims on the glass are simply not true. In pocket, on desk - nothing unusual.. and the screen is scuffed quite noticeably - bad one near the front camera and a bunch in one corner

So it turns out screen protectors are still absolutely needful if you want the glass to stay scuff-free

That’s interesting. Did you have anything in your pocket? This screen seems to be the most scratch resistant so far according to jerryrigeverything

I have the apple clear case on mine and no front screen protector and have been carrying it in my front pocket along with a plastic medication bottle since Friday when I received it and no scuffs or marks on the screen.

Just used my camera app on my iPhone Air. I changed the focus point to the titanium frame and the camera adjusted automatically presenting that view. If you see in the previous picture the screen is clear and you can see my glass clearly but the titanium frame is blurred.
You might consider taking one from the same distance focused on the label on the back, it is illegible which is not great even with no macro, but I assume the focus was elsewhere for whatever reason.

If I am not mistaken, Apple claims that the screen and body of the Air are stronger and more resistant to breaking / shattering. At this point in time, the screen cannot be scratch-proof and shatter-proof.

1) Try putting a screen protector on to lessen the visibility of the scratches.
2) Contact Apple asap and beg for some grace (be very polite and non-accusatory) and see if they will work with you and offer to replace the phone for you since it is so new.
3) Return the phone and buy another using the 14 day no questions asked return policy.
4) Live with the scratches.

Unless I missed an option, those are your choices. Up to you to pick the one you feel is the right one.

Thanks, this is helpful. Did you take any photos that were not in great lighting? My decision as to whether or not to keep the Ait is largely going to come down to the camera question.
I just snapped a panoramic photo of my back yard in the twilight (7:40pm) and here's the result.

You can see the light from my dining room glaring against one of the posts in my patio so it is fairly dark out here when I took this picture.

I waited for it to get much darker and took this picture at 7:50pm and this is the result. I feel this new iPhone does a great job capturing low level light pictures.

I see potential with this new iPhone although it is not a Pro series with the improved camera setup but I feel it will be more than adequate for most people. Hope this helps!

I did find myself missing the UW for catching more of the treeline fall color after the sun had fully risen, but I am happy with the main camera! (I run to the lake so a dedicated camera isn’t practical for that.)

I think the Air pic looks fine for capturing the moment and who knows, maybe inserting the pic in your journal to complete a memory.

I have a 14p thats been caseless/screen protector-less its entire life.

the Ceramic Shield on the front has tons of scratches both visible and fine

the back glass (non CM) is completely flawless

my air is 100% going to get a screen protector right away

Yesterday vs Today. I definitely think I was having some “first full day” battery woes yesterday.

@jenjen80 Do you see yourself keeping your new Air?
I’m 50/50 I’d say?! Love how it feels and the (lack of) weight in the pocket of my running shorts is awesome (yes, even an ounce less is noticeable in a tight pocket 😄), but I do worry I’ll miss ultrawide and macro. I sell quite a bit online as a hobby and I do utilize macro for some things but I am not sure that is a dealbreaker. But on the flip side, I’m not sure the Air is worth $200 more than the base 17, which is what I originally ordered so I went ahead and picked it up too “just in case.” I haven’t opened that yet but I know the familiarity is there since I’ve always bounced back and forth each year between the Pro and base models. I am torn between familiarity and the novelty I guess 🙃

Thanks for the honest reply. Have you given thought to possibly keeping both to use as the need / want arises?

I’d love to, but I can’t justify nearly $2k for two phones especially being an annual upgrader (at retail less trade-in) 😬 I have a week and a half to decide which one to return so I’ll continue to play with this one and see if I either adapt to its features or come to the conclusion that the 17 is a better fit for my wants/needs 🙂

I'm pretty happy with my blue one in a Torras Q3 air case. I always use a case. Probably the nicest looking combo yet IMHO.

Is it me or some apps don't currently support the new screen resolution of the Air? While the native iOS apps are correctly sized, some apps (such as Reddit) appear to be scaling using the base iPhone's resolution, resulting in an enlarged image -- maybe 10% larger? Hopefully the developers of these apps update them soon as all these new phones have the same 460 ppi.

I also don’t get the single speaker drama. Granted I only use the speaker on my iPhone at night in bed watching YouTube or listening to a podcast while cooking and it’s perfectly fine.

Oh I know it can definitely happen. I’m just wondering how it scratched significantly in 2 days.
