As mostly a lurker who's been hooked on all the air threads the past week or so figure I should give back. Despite some last second hesitation based on some reports of low volume issues with phone calls, decided to go from a 14 pro to an Air instead of the regular 17. First off, I guess I can see where some might have a problem with the volume but it's not been an issue at all for me. It's a nice phone, but I'm honestly not as blown away by the weight as I thought I might be. That said, based on my usage, the thin design and slightly larger screen were incentive enough for me to choose the Air.

I don't get super excited about phones so I can't say it's the most excited I've been about a phone in ages (although the fact that I'm taking the time to write this might suggest a bit more enthusiasm than usual as I don't think I've ever bothered to share my thoughts on my phone). It is a great screen, the battery is fine for my needs, the speaker is more than good for my use (use headphones if I want high quality sound), and the two photos I've taken just to try the camera look fine (I mostly leave the photos to my wife).

In addition to the larger screen, what I like the most is the feel when in my pockets, as those saying you barely notice it are not exaggerating even though for whatever reason I don't appreciate the weight difference as much when holding the phone in my hand. I probably would have been fine with the regular 17, but also like having the 12 gb of ram. My only regret is I probably should have gone with white or black, as the cloud blue really should be called off-white blue. Still nice though.
I tend to agree about the light blue color, but it has grown on me and actually the frame of the phone is more like a silver blue color? Anyways that’s my two cents on the color.

I turned AOD off. I don't miss it. When the phone is not in my pocket and I am with other people, it's upside down anyway. If I need a glimpse I pick it up and the screen turns on anyway or when I get a notification. I am not sure how much battery it actually saves.

Handled the Air again today. It really would have benefitted from a smaller size. It's essentially just a super light Pro Max/Plus
This is probs the biggest reason I havn't tried one, don't want anything bigger than my 16 pro, you don't get much more advantage going to air/max size, been there done that with 15/16 max, and I have a mini 7 that get's used more than my phone at home.
Don't need a bigger slab of glass on me when out and about or working.

But then people like me wouldn't have bought it, because part of the reason WHY I wanted it was because had a good size screen but wasn't as big as the Pro Max - but was lighter than my current phone, lol.

The longer I've had mine the more I grow to love it tbh - when I pause to think about the paper specs I can debate, but the thing is - I just don't think I care enough about the battery life and the camera to suffer with the weight of the Pro Max, and considering that screen size AND weight are important to me, I don't want to go down to the 17 or 17 Pro. So the Air is making me pretty happy tbh.

I have read/seen several comments/videos that claim that the surprise or honeymoon effect will vanish in a short time and that is when one will find themselves with a less capable mobile. Just like if the phone stopped being thin and light after two weeks of use.

Well, in my personal experience with the 13 Pro Max, after that honeymoon phase in which I took a couple of ProRAW photos and a couple of cinematic videos and a couple of that (and never again)... I found myself with a heavy phone that could be uncomfortable to use for long periods. A feeling that only got worse over the years…

You didn’t have to keep it ;)

I confess that in my case, I'm a little worried that the Air's battery won't last from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. I use it for both work (Outlook, Teams, WhatsApp, calls) and personal use (calls, Facebook, Instagram, Gmail, etc.).

Do you think the Air can handle all of this? (I have a 14 Pro that would handle it all, but with the update to iOS 26, it doesn't even last 7 hours.)

This depends on who answers you.

There's people who can use their Air for 2 days somehow and with many hours SOT.

If I answer you... then I would say no. Not for my experience.

7:35 am: 100%
2:15 pm: 61%

2h 21min SOT

And today I'm using well below my last week average:

98%
115%
107%
131%
143%
106%
139%
39% today (2:15 pm)

It really depends on how heavy your usage is. If you’re using teams to chat and checking FB for 5-10 minutes a couple of times a day, it’ll probably be fine. If you’re doing video calls on Teams and scrolling Instagram for multiple hours, probably not.

Yesterday I had 4:40 of SOT and 6 hours of screen idle time, and ended the day at 30%. This morning I took it off the charger 2 hours ago and have been browsing MacRumors for like 45 minutes, and I’m at 92%.

Thanks. I was thinking of change it for 17 Pro but this "scratch gate" worries me.

I’m a big fan of the Air, but everything I’ve seen is that scratch gate isn’t actually a thing. What’s happening is the phone is scratching the charger in the Apple Store, and material from the charger gets left on the phone. Not the other way around. When I was in the apple store earlier this week all of the phones looked brand new.

I honestly wouldn’t let that keep you from getting the Pro.

First impression (after the others).

I'm rather happy with this. It feels rather solid, and I don't use a case (knock on wood).

May previous PM16's battery life was overkill, so I'm not noticing anything. Nice change.

This was my use case yesterday. 2 hours of Teams (3 meetings), 1 hour of gaming (3D), 3 hours of random browsing between Safari/Amazon, 1 hour of navigation with Maps. Bonus 30 minutes of WIFI hotspot on 5G.

My Air was pushed very hard. This was by the time I got home.

I did bring along the MagSafe battery pack. Ended up not needing it. Low power mode at 20% was able to extend screen on time to another 3 hours, so by the end I got an extra 30 minutes, just enough for me to navigate home.

I put it on the charger at around 10:30PM with 3% left, by the way.

I also came from a 14 Pro Max and Air has lasted a bit longer for me.

P.S.: you can also see throughout the whole week, I'd get home to typically 40% - 50% or more on lighter days. Yesterday was just very very busy.

Finally had the chance to look at all the new iPhones today in Antwerp, Belgium.

I need to that "scratch" thing out of the way first. They had the iPhone, iPhone Air and iPhone Pro there in all colours and none of them were scratched. They were all docked to a setup with the standard Apple puck for wireless charging. No scratches. I have no skin in the game, I own zero Apple stock, I'm just stating what I saw.

iPhone felt like I expected.

iPhone Air felt very thin indeed. I have to say though, after reading about the blue and gold being almost white ... after seeing them for real I'm starting to think that the gold and blue are more related to the edge of the phone and not so much the back. The back of the blue, gold and white all looked white but from the side I could definitely tell which one was which. 🤷🏼‍♂️

What surprised me most (in a negative way) was the feel of the aluminium of the Pro. That felt really cheap compared to my iPhone 14 Pro in deep purple. Complete turn-off for me, and after seeing what the Pro cameras can do I'm more and more convinced I'll never buy a Pro again. I don't need any of that and the feel of the 17 Pro was a complete no-no.

A weird thing: I'm not a fan of huge phones. My 14 Pro screen is as big as I want to go. Although the Air is slightly bigger it didn't bother me at all. Maybe the lack of weight or thickness tricks my mind.

Slightly tempted to upgrade my 14 Pro to the black Air without cover and suffer the scratches as they come. Undecided.
