I agree. Took my Pro to the office today as the air hasn’t been set up with eSIM yet and I’ve been on the air all evening. It’s just so much nicer. A lot easier to type on too.
so key pad is bigger than 16 pro? saw someone said text etc is same size as 16 pro?

I literally just got mine from UPS and I am stunned. It's so light and thin, and I love that its not as heavy/noticeable in my pocket compared to my 15PM.

It feels like a premium device. Currently it's doing a software update but I already got my esim moved over. I'll share more thoughts later once I had time to swoon over it.

I do like the sky blue color. Its fantastic.

Yet apple sells a magsafe battery specifically for the Air. They are anticipating battery issues.

Well, if you absolutely cannot avoid topping up your phone’s battery multiple times per day…

Air actually is the superior phone because Magsafe battery pack + the phone is not so heavy to hold together and you can swap between multiple packs to keep the phone going forever, theoretically. I didn’t get it at first but I tried this today and it makes sense.

And yes, I did try holding Pro Max together with the MagSafe battery pack. It is a beast! I bet I can use that contraption as a weapon if necessary. But there is no way I can hold Pro Max together with any battery pack for long. And a cable is so unwieldy.

I love my iPhone Air. I've always been a standard screen sized phone person and never liked the plus/max sized phones but I think the Air nails it with being lightweight(relatively), thinness and battery life - it's as good or a little better than my 15 Pro I had before it.

I have no desire for fold phone so I hope they keep the Air around for the long term.

tank vs. drone

the Pro is heavy. the pro is for people who can't imagine not being prepared for any eventuality, with the tradeoff of being unwieldy and heavy. its for people who say, "but what if i want to take this kind of photo"...even through they only take that kind of photo one time a year.

the Air is for mobility. agility. modular. i have the additional battery pack the days i have used it more than usual.

with the Air, ive also started to go back to using my iPhone for reading. for the past few years i used the Kindle. now with the Air, ive gone back to using an iPhone.

very happy that apple has given these two options in the Pro and the Air.

My question was, so when Apple released a battery pack for the iPhone Pro, it didnt trust the iPhone Pro's battery life? You cant have it both ways.
“Pro” implies heavy use for a part of users - that entails higher power consumption. Air doesn’t. Either way, the previous battery pack wasn’t specifically made for the Pro models only - it was for their entire iPhone 12-14 range - which used a newly introduced charging “connector”. The Air doesn’t.

Ignorance is bliss. I got it. Why let facts get in the way of your opinions? So. Let me educate you sir.
Your previous claim that they released an Air-specific battery pack (quote) “because the old one would not fit” does not make much sense to me - given that the old one hasn’t been on sale for two years. That’s what I was pointing out.

Whatever the Air’s geometry (that I knew about! I read the articles myself), it has got nothing to do with their “old” battery pack.

It would have more sense saying it doesn’t fit contemporary battery packs made by third parties. But even if they concluded “we can leave the non-Air battery pack market to third-parties, the point still stands: they’re selling a battery pack exclusively for the Air - and it’s their only such MagSafe battery in their current lineup.

(…and: they made a big point about battery life with that pack)l
I know you are a world class marketing guru
I’m not. Neither did I claim to be. So stop the hyperbole. I’m merely stating my opinion - and so are you.
That said, I’ve sold iPhones for a living to have experienced a few things about customers’ perception.

There is obviously a large subset of people tired of heavy, bulky phones.
Including me, yes (though I’m not sure I can count myself as part of a majority). But the Air fails for some of them as well: Because of its width (see the first impressions thread on this forum with several people disliking the width). It’s not really a “small” phone.

The Air’s a cool, shiny gadget. A thin marvel of engineering (though not unprecedented in Android land). A preview into the future of iPhones, if you will.

…and that is OK! More power to anyone that likes it and loves their “Air” purchase.

I still believe the Air makes some compromises and is marketed, positioned and priced somewhat awkwardly in Apple’s lineup. Which will preclude it from enjoying great mass market appeal and becoming a top-selling model.

Again, it’s OK if someone likes Apple’s more “niche” offerings (just as I am a huge fan of the iPad mini form factor - which certainly is far from being Apple’s best-selling).

We need not get to emotional about it.
what matters to Apple is will they sell enough to make it worth their while. We will find out next year. I am not big on idle speculation.
Well, the speculation is, kind of, the point of this thread, isn’t it? ;)

You’re misstating what I said, repeating yourself and tossing in more condescending remarks? Why?

I’ve made my point. Enjoy.

Perhaps the OP has a point - In the UK, iPhone Airs are still readily available to order for next day, while the base iPhone 17 and the Pro have a 2 week + wait.

Note - I am not criticizing the Air, just saying what I see.

Or I see the trending threads on this site all being about the air. 😏
This will only fuel the "fire" and lead to more Air sales.

Most regular folks who are not MR will be attracted to the Air merely because of the form factor, weight, and price point.

Would be interesting to see sales numbers after the holidays...

Kind of agree, but price point ain’t it. Regular folks aren’t inclined to pay $999 for a phone when there is an option for $799, especially if you are buying or financing multiple phones.

Good point, but since I came from the Pro camp, the Air is a lower price point for me.

Depends on how you look at it...

Not only is there an option for $799, it just so happens to be the best value iPhone (of 17 series) and has more features than the Air.

This ultimately is the kicker. It's tough paying more for less and people generally don't tend to do it. And the speakers, camera and battery life are all objectively worse on the Air. It looks beautiful and I could be persuaded to make some of those trade offs but to also pay a not-insignificant amount more for those trade offs is a hard sell.

It seems to be forgotten that the first MacBook Air which was originally priced at a premium over the regular MacBook, and while beautiful, it wasn't much of a success. It was only when they lowed the price and pitched it as the regular MacBook when it hit it's stride.

I believe Apple's ambition with the Air is to increase the average spend on an iPhone, that people with Pros will generally stick to the Pro line, but some of those with a regular iPhones who haven't previously been interested in the better features of the Pro line might be tempted to spend more to get a new and unique design in the Air. It remains to be seen if this will work

Not the case on Amazon the white model has a delay on it. The other colours don’t.

In this new review he points out near the beginning that you cannot understand the Air until you use it. He also points out that iOS 26 seems most fitted for the Air.

I feel the Air is a niche device and for myself, I love the way it feels in my hand and for such a thin device, it works quite well for my daily needs and what I expect out of my device. I upgraded from a 15 pro and so far, I am happy with the upgrade.

I tried returning my 17 pro max for the air, but the apple employee told me it could take up to 48 hours for my upgrade eligibility to go back on my line. I can't go 48 hours without a phone, so next year I will get the air.
