You certainly could, but i know when I get a new device I’m not to thrilled to have to set it up, install a profile, then restore it all over again just to use an iCloud backup. It’s a painstaking process that one shouldn’t have to go through.

You only need to restore from a backup once. Set up as new, download the beta profile, update to 13.1, then restore. On fast WiFi the first three things take about 15 minutes.

Hmm... I rememeber the X didn't have the latest OS out for a few days but is it possible we just wait and see if the beta is released for the 11/11Pros on Friday? Otherwise can "upgrade" to GM on the main phone by removing the beta profile, and then do an xfer?

(I hope the wired xfer works... it didn't with a new iPad from a phone on same beta - probably needs same OS version)

I can understand someone wants to try new major iOS release, but I certainly can't understand why some people want to run beta software permanently on their daily drivers even for new devices.

This thread has given me some hope. I am on 13.1 and will be picking up my pro Max Friday.
I’ll start it as new. Download the profile, then restore it from my iCloud backup

I will try this, but this assumes that the 13.1 beta will work right away on the Pro Max. DO we have confirmation that it does?

If you planned to buy a new phone that you don’t want to use beta software on then you should have stayed away from this beta cycle in the first place.
However, the solution is simple. Don’t unbox until the 30th.

That’s interesting because I’ve always used betas before and the GM has come out before the next release of beta software, at which time I’d remove the beta profile. So when the new device arrives they are already both on the same software. It’s always been that way. Thank you though for trying to contribute.

It was your own choice to install 13.1 beta 1. That’s where you should have opt out and you knew by then that things could get messy.

I realize that but at the same time Apple has never ever done this before so I thought that 13.1 would be the release software, as did many others. There was no GM of 13.0 at the time and there still isn’t an over the air one so it’s not like this is the same old process with Apple this year. Tariff reasons is the only reason this occurred so stop acting like I and others should have known that this was the usual process, because it isn’t.

There's a reason why I didn't even consider putting iOS 13 on my iPhone: This was probably going to be an upgrade year for me.

Lo-and-behold, I ordered an iPhone 11, and if I had gone beta I'd be in this predicament.

Lesson learned: Don't use betas if you're upgrading that year.

I also thought that 13.1 would be release software. I’m in the exact same situation as you are. Well well. Life goes on.

I can't recall the last time I didn't need to install a profile and update to a beta on a new device before I could restore. Year after year, there is a beta released between the announcement and the release day. The process adds just a bit of time. Setup as a new device to the point you can get to Safari, load the profile, upgrade, erase all settings then setup again this time loading the iCloud backup. I do this year after year.

Seriously. Is it that big of a pain? That's exactly what I do each year. Enjoy the beta and go this route or dont install the beta.

Yes, the process is simple, but they have to release a beta for the new phones, which hasn't been released yet. Could be today, could be Friday. Can't do this until there is a beta for it, but I assume there will be one.

I am a Apple developer . . . Not public testers (who should not exist in my opinion) . . .

Public testers should not exist you say?

It’s the Public that pay to purchase your apps.

Without Public testers both Apple and yourself would gain far, far less Feedback during the Betas.

These people are taking their own time to provide a free service to Apple and yourself.

Yes I acknowledge there are a few (who are usually a very loud minority as is the case with anything in life) who moan about this and that not working during the Beta frustrating all of us that accept this as the whole point of the Beta process. The purpose being to identify what is not working and report it back - whilst also knowing that most apps will not be updated until the last few days prior or even a couple of weeks after official iOS release.

The vast majority of Public Beta Testers, however, provide an extremely valuable additional Feedback resource for both Apple and the Developer community.

I guess we will find out in several hours once the Australians get their hands on the 11 and then do the 13.1 dev 4 upgrade.

At least I'll know in the morning before I set off to the Applestore whether I can do the upgrade, or just have to suck it up and configure as a new phone.

So people on 13.1 can delete the beta profile and install the 13 when its released today? If its even possible I wonder what it can break?
