The one thing I envy of all my friends with a blackberry is the blackberry messenger which they have. Now that Apple are introducing push notifications to the iPhone, do you think there will be a standard equivalent downloadable for the iPhone, instead of a whole bunch of apps just popping up that do the same but no one person has the same one on their phone?

Hmm maybe it's a bit selfish of me, but I want one just for iPhone users...

Plus Beejive is £5.99 - which is definitely too much for everyone to have..

Yeah! exactly... me too!!
the thing is that I'm from Venezuela but currently living in Lebanon.. and there's an average of almost 65% of Venezuelans have BlackBerry's... and consequently most of my family/friends from there have it! so, i was thinking about it and we do need an Official iPhone Chat App:rolleyes:!

OP, I'm with you 100% on this.

And people who haven't used BBM, or don't know what it is, don't suggest retarded alternatives like MSN, AIM, etc.. thanks

WTF. It's in the top left it is called messages. It is way better than BBM and you can talk to anyone.

I agree, so many of my friends have iPhones, and a free service like BBM for iPhones would just be GREAT. I think that if/when iChat comes to the iPhone, it will be similar to BBM.

well it is just an IM app. anyone can download the free version of AIM or any other IM app.

They can all talk to each other.

it's not the same thing! if apple makes an official iPhone App for free... everyone w/ an iPhone will have it... and it wouldnt be like all IM's ... there's no online/offline thingy... just as long that u have an iPhone and ur friend has an iPhone, both of u can chat... at anytime... almost as thought its unlimited texting between iphones...

BBM is free. Enough said.

Haha exactly!

Plus it's the only thing which the Blackberry has on the iPhone - when your whole social circle has it because they all have Blackberries it makes you wish you had something exclusive too...:(

Yeah, I think Blackberries beat the iPhone with BBM and their e-mail, but I still think iPhones are superior. If I didn't have an iPhone though, I'd definitely go for the BB Bold.

BBM is the one and ONLY thing I am missing this week. How can you top free messages that are pushed immediately through RIM servers? I don't want to use some AIM off the wall beeass client or some crap. I want a real OEM nicely working app.

As nice as the App store is, there is a lot of garbage on there. Free texting, but I have to use my email account to know about new texts? Why don't I just email then? I am not cheap, I can afford an unlimited text plan, but the BBM is slick because it is literally instant and runs on pin numbers which you can easily swap without giving out your phone number.

Of course Apple could introduce this and probably call it iChat, but they rather milk it's iPhone customers and release it maybe next year.

People have iPhones without unlimited messaging?

I don't, I have 1500. I usually use about 1400 of those too, so a BBM-like app for iPhone only would really be useful. It's funny to me that people can't appreciate other companies' products just because they don't have a fruit on the back. Yeah iPhone's are great, but not perfect.

Its way easier than typing an SMS in the Apple app, at least IMHO. I only have 3 people in my BBM and I bet I use 5,000 "messages" in it a month. I only use about 300 texts usually.

the way the iPhone does texting is pretty similar to BBM (threaded, you can keep the window open and new messages pop up)... but ya, an always-on iPhone-only chat program would be sweet.

But surely if your whole social circle has Blackberries with BBM then you having an exclusive iPhone app won't do you much good?

Well technically something like the blackberry messenger should be possible with the new 3.0 update no? I don't see why not..You don't need background applications for this..?

AIM > * > BBM

Oh, I'm sorry... did I hurt your feelings?

lol.

I know your doing it on purpose. We had a disagreement before ;)

And to the people that said BBM is free, let's not get ahead of ourselves here... you need data. And no, not everyone has data on their phones.
