Im I the only one who is frustrated with the way hes using it? It looks like he's fumbling with the keys and makes it look hard to use, hopefully thats not the case!

I believe he does not understand that pushing makes absoulutely no difference on registering a "finger tap click". The touch interface works by the distortion of electromagnetic fields above the surface of the screen. A hard or soft tap makes no difference in this sense. However having a shaky finger would make it difficult for the iPhone screen to register the position of your finger.

So morale of the story don't shake your finger at the iPhone.:)

I think it is a function of him wanting the camera to see the screen while he is touching it. Someone not worried about the camera seeing the screen would use the index finger, and would end up covering up the screen.

idk why .. but i acctually dont like the box so much ..
i'd prefer white one.. and i never liked the home screen pic.
when steve jobs showed the iPhone connected through iTunes at MacWorld
the iphone pic that he showed (the iphone with black screen, kindof like the ipod is tiday when you connect it to itunes) was much better than what they revealed today.. so it made me kinda dissappointed..

but anyway .. i still gonna get it!

I've worked in an area that had lots of touch screens that customers had to use. The ones that tapped harder had the most difficulties using them. I found there was more response the lighter you touched them. As I recall Steve J had a "graceful" touch during the keynote that worked well.

I am such a dork.... I have been wanting to see the box for so long.....

if thats the FINAL box then i guess no new application tomorrow or launch day right?

Galvanic Skin Response

If this screen is capacitance based, then his being nervous may be *why* he has to press so hard.

A lot of touch-based interfaces work based on the conductivity of your fingers. When your mood changes, especially in extreme stress, your conductivity changes. I know when I panic, I can't use a track pad, it doesn't register my movements. Could be the same thing.

I suspect it's a matter of angling the device so it can be seen on camera and moderating the pressure applied to the unit so he doesn't drop it. Also, the person probably is a reporter and not a product demonstration specialist.

Jobs likely looks more natural by comparison in how he used the iPhone because a) he's better coached and b) he didn't have anyone looking over his shoulder while he used it. All eyes, as I recall, were on the projection screen vs. the iPhone display.
