my iPhone has been closing safari randomly not a lot but about 3 times since I got it. Also when I have my songs shuffling and safari open my songs will stop randomly and usually safari will close soon after. I've been using wifi with a pretty good signal in two different houses.

I get this too. And it definitely has nothing to do with the wifi or EDGE connection dropping.

I'd be browsing and suddenly Safari closes and puts me back at my home screen. It has happened while browsing a variety of websites (including MacRumors) so it can't be a problem specific to a certain type of page either in my opinion.

Hmmmm, Has your music ever stoped playing while you were using safari?
I'll probobly go to the Apple store soon i it does not stop.

Safari isn't closing, it's crashing. Some websites do that to Safari and, as others have said, Safari and iPod use will cause a crash sometimes too. It's better after the updates than it was in the beginning, but it still happens.

The good news is that a Safari crash doesn't take down your whole system. And you can fire it right up again straight away.

I've had the same issue in the past. For me though it seems to go away after I update and sync. (I don't do it often enough.) In fact, this morning I was having the problem with Safari quitting and taking me back to the main iPhone screen. I tried several web sites with the same result. I then downloaded the iPhone update through iTunes and updated the software on my iPhone. I tested Safari immediately after and it worked fine. You've probably already thought of this though already. :)

I found out it is a known issue, I should have done my reasearch. The updates seem to make it less likely to happen but is still happening with the latest version of the firmware. I'm sure Apple will fix it eventually.

I havent had my browser close out to many times. What i find annoying is when im trying to view a website and the screen freezes up. it seems that with every update to the iphone the browser gets worse and worse. I thought that it was more responsive on 1.1.1 then it is now, but the phone itself seemed more unstable.

Help Anyone????

I've had my iPhone for only 3 days now and I fed up with this.
The safari on my phone closes ALL THE TIME!
Whenever I load a page, about 1 minute after,it closes!
And if my music is playing, and I try to load a page, the music stops!
This is really frustrating because my safari is pretty much useless, and apparently I can't do anything else while my music is playing.

Its a know issue and we're sure Apple is aware of this and that it will be taken care of in the next firmware update. Your case sounds particularly bad, I suggest you go to the Apple store and have them look at it :)

Yes, time for a trip the the iPod bar. There is something wrong with your iPhone (assuming that you haven't hacked it).

I'm having the same problem and set up a case with apple support to get the phone sent in...i may get a new phone out of the whole thing assuming they cant fix it with the current firmware they have.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3A109a Safari/419.3)

I too have had these issues but found it to be mainly on java intensive sites and media heavy sites. I figure it is because the know bugs but still drives me nuts. I clear my cache daily in hopes it will reduce the issues.

Yer I too get it on 1.1.3, not unlocked or jailbroken. Hope it soon gets sorted.

Same issue here. Safari has crashed on my phone without the iPod running and I think maybe once or twice with it running.

mines been doing it too. I shut down and restarted my iphone and it seems to be working better now. *knocks on wood*

I dont think its a bug I its just a normal thing for it to do. It makes sense for it to crash on high media sites.

Nahh, sorry man but I don't buy that. If safari or iPod is crashing under use then that is best described as a bug. I doubt the apple engineers thought to themselves: "gee George, safari crashing during heavy load just makes so much sense! There ain't enough resources!"

Lame!!

I'm having the same issue with Safari but my music never crashes. Since I read this thread I am going to test using Safari without the iPod playing music.

Is anyone on this thread using a hacked iPhone?
