While I agree, it more like another reason to NOT open a device that says do not open?

Oh heck no. Some of us have opened up every toy we ever owned :D

To me, it's like the difference between those who can, and do, mod their own cars... and those who can't, or don't want to.

More power to each set of users, but neither should worry about stopping the other. Ain't gonna happen!

Cheers, Kev

What so honestly screwing with the software makes your iPhones explode? But it wont matter because it would be covered by Apple.. how are they going to tell your iPhone was unlocked if it blew up?

He was doing a hardware unlock, but its not impossible to blow your phone up using just software, just overclock the CPU and it will overheat and explode. Overclocking can easily be done by just software, just make some sort of app that does it, someone done it there PSP once.

Im all for modding, but i just hope this doesnt turn into the typical, "But I paid so much for it! Apple must fix this for free!" - because you aint supposed to open it.

But if you want to, accept responsibility for it. i can just see people doing the opposite.

Yet another reason to have easily removeable batteries

You obviously havent read about te removable batteries that have exploded too, huh? It happens when you short circuit ANY battery with sufficient current. A removable battery can succumb just as easily, you one needs to do is put one in their pocket along with a set of keys, and be unlucky enough for the two to make contact at just the right spot.

Well, of course there's dangers like that. Ever melt a screwdriver on a car battery?

But that doesn't negate the fact that it'd be a lot safer to disassemble an iPhone if the battery came out easily before starting.

I take apart and repair cell phones when I'm building one up from repair parts off eBay, and obviously the first thing I do is take out their battery.

For that matter, drop an iPhone in water or spill coffee in it, and I'd wish the battery was removeable right away! (I did the latter to a laptop... thank goodness I could pull power completely off.)
