Go to the apple store.. Make up a story saying your phone won turn on... Say sum like u pulled out of your pocket once u go inside cuz it was raining.. And it wouldn't turn on... They may actually waive the damages.. Give u a free replacement..or they may give u a replacement price... Or lastly.. Do what they said at AT&T.. And u can use your old sim

Trust me...any story that you make up, they've heard before. If that did work it's be because you got a Genius who happens to be in a good mood and wants to do something nice, not because they believed you.

OP: Just go to the Apple Store and get a replacement for $199. This is what Apple says about refurbs:

Each Apple Certified Refurbished Product:
  • is fully tested (including full burn-in testing).
  • is refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing.
  • is put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection.
  • is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.).
  • includes the operating software originally shipped with the unit and the custom software offered with that system.
  • is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.
  • is placed into a Final QA inspection prior to being added to sellable refurbished stock.

I have a refurb and it works fine and doesn't smell like poop. Actually, the radio died on the first refurb I got, so I took it back the next day and got another. No big deal. Neither smelled like crap either.

I've had a LOT of refurbished Apple products and none of them have ever smelled like poop in my experiences.

I have to wonder... if that story was true... is the original poster REALLY concerned that it will happen AGAIN and especially with the odds of HIM actually getting another poop-smeared iPhone? I really doubt you'll ever see (or smell) a poop flavored iPhone again.

Why the hell would you pay 299.99, PLUS a $175 ETF for a new phone when you could just pay 199.99 for a refurb?

Can you honestly answer that question? OF COURSE the AT&T rep suggested that you buy a new phone. lol

Last week, I brought my 120GB iPod Classic to the Apple store because about two months ago, it developed about 100 bad pixels. They had to order me a "new" one and they got it two days later.

It looked perfect as if I had just bought it brand new at the Apple store. The back stainless case was perfect without a single finger print or scratch and the wheel on the front was just like new as well, no shiny worn spots and I get a brand new battery all one month before my warranty expires.

Well worth it!

Absolutely. I've had both the 3G and 3GS replaced. Had better luck with those 2 'refurbs' than with the 'brand new' ones. But what do a thread full of people know?

^ Oh yeah? My friend got a refurb iPhone last year that smelled like human ****. Yes, poo. And it was not just his imagination, everyone commented that "Dude your iPhone smells like ****."

He had it taken in and looked at, turns out whoever returned it in the first place (the original owner) had smeared poo in it, as a cruel joke.

thats interesting...considering i'm almost 100% sure that they wont tell you where the phone came from. your friend probably just dropped it in the toilet after his business, and fished it out, that used that excuse

I find this story dubious to say the least

I'd just get the refurb 3GS, but hey, it's your money. Weren't you going to get the Droid though?

Question: If you get an out-of-warrantee replacement, do you have to give up your old phone?

I know a few people that got refurbished phone and they work and smell fine. But if you have your mind set of spending triple for a phone that your probably going to drop in water again because lets face it people ITS A PHONE! THINGS HAPPEN.. then go ahead shell out more cash for a phone that next year your probably going to shell out more money foe because your going to want the newer iphone. Do what you want, but don't come on here asking for help that you really don't want!

If not, don't you think EVERYONE would be buying refurbs and selling them on ebay for $700 and making $500 profit? Try using your brain before asking questions.

I knew the answer, but I wanted to be sure. If I smashed the screen on my iPhone, I'd rather just buy a new screen and pop it in instead of trying my luck at the replacement game again.

After exchanging 4 iPhones, I don't wanna take any chances.

I love how iPhone users that break there phone somehow think there more inclined to get a new phone more so than others. Apple doesn't have to even offer a warranty, why should they take your water logged phone and give you a working refurbished one let alone a brand new one? There being nice. It's like biting the hand that feeds you, your acting like a child. Plus refurbs get inspected better.

First of all, I complete doubt the feces story. But, the only way I could build any credibility into it is if the phone were an AT&T refurb, which is actually just a returned iPhone they put in a different box after restoring it. This would never happen with an Apple refurb.

DOA= Dead on Arrival. Did you iphone ship in a bathtub full of water? :p

btw refurbs are tested extensively at the Apple repair center. Not to mention that the case and battery are all swapped for new ones.

DOA means on arrival of you, not the thing you're referring to. I respond to a car accident and the person was dead upon my arrival, not their arrival at the accident.

Finally, Xcite Me ... You're a troll and we all know it.
