The glass removal itself should take you over an hour!

New oem glass piece with adhesive remover:

Here is a list of some basic tools you should have laying around your home.

Eye protection:

Flat head xacto knife or razor blade. I recommend you use a flat head xacto knife, if you dont already have one they can be bought at your local craft store for a dollar.

Anything that you can find to shatter the glass even more. We used a glass cutter from home depot ($2.50) but you can use any thing that is sharp enough to shatter glass.

Kitchen and Bath Adhesive caulk. If you dont have this laying around your house you can use any form of glue, but we had the best results with the adhesive caulk.

Windex or any glass cleaner:

Hair dryer: DO NOT USE HEAT GUN!

Step 1: Shatter your iphone glass as much as possible, the more crystalized it is the easier it will be to remove. Dont worry you can hit the glass pretty hard without damaging the LCD or Digitizer since its purpose is to protect it.

Step 2: Mount your hair dryer to something so you can turn it on and use both hands to work with your iphone. I kept it simple by duck taping it to a piece of wood (worked perfectly!). The purpose of this is to heat up and soften the adhesive for easier removal.

Step 3: With the hair dryer running start to apply the adhesive remover with a Q tip to the part of the glass you will be removing. Gently slide the xacto blade under the glass and you should start to see the glue almost bubble. NEVER PRY UP!!! this is how you crack your lcd. Just wiggel in a upward motion once you feel that the glass is loose enough to remove.

NOTE: The top part and bottom parts of the iphone (the black part of the glass) are extremely easy to remove and you wont need to apply any adhesive remover to those parts. It should just lift right off with alittle heat and your xacto knife.

Step 4: As stated above the black parts of the glass are extremely easy to remove. Make sure to put the button aside as you will be needing it in a few more steps.

Step 5: Apply the adhesive remover to the lcd. Use the xacto knife to scrape up all the heavy adhesive then use a rag (i used a old shirt) to get the rest off. Dont worry about scratching your lcd, it is glass and scratching it is very hard to do. Make sure to apply plenty of adhesive with your Q tip.

Use your xacto blade to scrape off all the extra glue on the top and bottom parts of the phone

Step 6: Once all the old adhesive is completly removed from the iphone, clean it up as best as you can with some windex. Like i said the lcd is glass so windex works perfect.

Step 7: Apply the kitchen & bath adhesive caulk to each conner of the phone, make sure none gets on the lcd.

Step 8: Put the button in place and mount the new glass piece to the iphone.

Step 9: MAKE SURE THE NEW GLASS IS FIT PROPERLY TO THE IPHONE. Put the iphone to sleep, wait a couple of seconds and hit the home key. Your touch screen should be working. As you can see in the conners some of the caulk is coming through. Thats no big deal, let it dry then use the adhesive remover and a rag to get rid of it.

FINALLY YOUR DONE AND YOUR IPHONE LOOKS BRAND NEW AGAIN!

Some things you should know about your repaired iphone:

Everything should work as it did before. However, try to refrain from putting stress on the screen for the first week or two after getting it back, as the adhesive that is bonding the new glass to the unit is going to still be curing and drying for awhile. Try not to lean on, squeeze, or push the screen in harder than it needs to be, and avoiding buffing it with nothing but brute force (use glass cleaner or alcohol and a tissue). The touch screen requires the glass on top to be seated properly, and putting undue stress on the screen can disrupt the proper electrical connection with the glass that the touch screen needs to work.

If for whatever reason you put too much stress on the screen the touch sensitivity may temporarily disappear entirely. Don't panic, this is normal, and just means the delicate connection between the outer glass and the touch screen has been interrupted. To fix it, tap the power/sleep button on top to put it in sleep mode, then press the home button (the round button at the bottom). Wait a couple of seconds, then try to slide the slider across to unlock the phone. The connection between the glass and the touch screen should be re-established and you can continue using the phone

would you be able to use 3g screen parts and digitizer on a 2gen or 1gen iphone?

iphone glass replacement

You can get broken glass repair for your iPhone screen done locally in Austin, Texas at a store called "All Wireless Repair" in North Austin on Research Blvd at Burnet Rd. Their phone number is 512-323-9292. They do the iPhone repair while you wait in the store. Very cool  It takes them less than 15 minutes to replace the broken glass and digitizer so you don't have to leave the phone or remove the sim card. They also have a mail-in repair service through their website.

I got around to getting my screen repaired by http://www.crackedphonescreen.com . They did a great job for $89.99. It looks like new and I am extremely happy with the work. They are Located in Dallas(where I am) and offer 1 hour service
