I had no heat issues at all on my 15 pro max prior to 17.0.3. I updated to 17.0.3 and now my phone heats up pretty warm, I'm not using my phone anymore than usual. Anyone else?

You gotta give us more info. What are you doing on the device when it’s heating up. Are you scrolling on mindless social media apps? Are you on a call? Are you charging the device? Just using Safari to browse on here?

I was charging my iPhone 15 Pro on my factory Tesla wireless charger while talking over bluetooth. Within a few minutes the phone overheated and gave me the overheat warning on the screen and disconnected the conversation. This was on IOS 17.0.2. Have to test it again with 17.0.3.

Just normal daily use, social media, streaming. I was doing the same thing I was before the update.

If you’re using instagram you still have to update the instagram app as that was the biggest problem and not the actual phone or iOS itself it’s been tested just updating instagram helped a lot even on 7.0.2

Yes, I just came on here to see if others had this issue. Mine has been sotting charging for 30 minutes. I just pocked it up to check simething and it is super warm. No issues prior to update. I will try the reboot

I was all good on 17.0.2 however, after the update to 17.0.3 I’ve noticed my 15 Pro running warmer and lagging a bit. It’s strange. I was all good before hand. It’s been 24 hours since the update.

I thought this update was suppose to fix this issue…

Wireless charging can heat up the phone quite a bit, especially when not perfectly centered.
Happens to my Mini in the Tesla, because it is too small. It basically heats up and barely charges at all.

One of the reasons apple came up with Magsafe.

For what it’s worth this guy tested temps on the 17.0.2 and then 17.0.3 and:

Good news: There was no throttling.

Bad news: The heating up was exactly the same.

Me thinks Apple is mitigating problems with apps but not the processor/thermal so if they didn’t get to your particular issue you may have to wait again.

No difference between 17.0.2 and 17.0.3 for me also when it comes to heating of iPhone 15 PM.

I do not remember my iPhone 13 Pro heating up to the point that it overheated.

The guy is fast charging while running benchmark tests……I am not surprised the phone gets hot.…..

All he wanted to do was to see if there was any difference between the two versions running a simple test, that got rid of many issues some had with his methodology.

Yes, this is extreme but it was interesting how the charging throttled itself from 24 to 4 watts when things started getting hot. Anyway, Apple would probably get into trouble if they throttled the processor so by dealing with specific scenarios instead of the sledgehammer fix on the chip, they may be able to get a fix everyone can live with. But - there will still be some that see no improvement in their particular situation and apparently this is what we are seeing. This may take some time with this type of fix.

Social media apps pre-cache a ton of content, scripts, trackers and ads as soon as you open them.

The bigger the profiles are the more content is cached, even if you are not following those profiles.

This is getting worse every year and the more powerful your device is the more resources social media apps will use.

Even if you are just a casual browser.

Blame these social media companies for building bloated systems that devour data and resources.

The best you can do is turn off background activity and notifications for these kind of apps. They are only going to get more bloated each year.

Since the update my phone has been fine during calls - it would get really hot before the update but waiting to see what it's like during FaceTime call (will try and make one today).

Will report back!

My Pro Max was updates to 17.0.3, but when using the camera for anything more than a few minutes at a time it gets incredibly hot. Twice today when taking pictures I got the message about the phone being too hot and needing to cool down. I wasn’t doing anything before taking pictures.

It does seem to heat up more than other iPhones I’ve had when just doing normal stuff.

.3 is supposed to be a fix for overheating in notes.

iPhone 15 Pro Max was supposed to be a worthy successor to iPhone 14PM, but it is not.

Mine does the same same, if I shoot in direct sunlight, particularly macros.

Just be patient. They didn’t throttle the chip but seem to be dealing with problems on an individual basis. That’s probably the best way to go. Have trust in their abilities.

My 15PM never overheated before, never overheated after .0.3

Does it become quite warm to the touch when fast charging under 50%? Yeah, normal.

My wife's iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.03 got pretty hot today while simply charging on a 20W Apple charger and 2m braided USB-C charging cable. It was about 40% charged at the time. No Apps running, but WIFI and BT on.

She got the iPhone last week...Are there processes (indexing, etc) that only occur when the iPhone is placed on a charger? Is there anything like "activity monitor" on the iPhone that I can check to see what its doing the next time it happens?

You are not alone, my wife has the 15 and it is warm still even after the update.
