ive been checking my packet usage on mydocomo. ive only had it on my phone for 3 days but according to mydocomo it seems to be holding at a capped chrage at 5700.unless there are some secret fees that will appear on my bill that are not on mydocomo. it wass actually maxed out after the first day so i imagine its impossible to have a monthly plan where you pay less than the max rate. but anyway it seems that im on my way to a total monthly package ((descent talk plan plus unlimited internet)) for 8400. not obligated to a 2 year contract and my phone is very coustomizeable/easy to app up for free ((jailbroken))..all in all it was a little bit of a pain but i think ive done it! and i would say its worth getting an i phone on docomo if you really want or need one or if u cant join softbank/dont want to leave docomo..but due to security issues and support i would recommend softbank first. i just happen to be blacklisted over there so i did what i had to do to get the product i want. im a mac dude 100%..products are second to none and i phone is just another product apple is smashing the industry with..black berries/androids/other lame touch phones are all either wack or just tring to play copy cat and catch up..steve jobs and the company itself..they get a big fat "meh"i have zero motivation to support them or their fake cause..but the products are top..sorry for the rant
Ron, sounds like you have the issue solved. All we need are some specifics though.
What Docomo phone did you get to start with, should we go and get a basic phone with your specific plan?
What sim card do you have, Foma, or regular Docomo?
What phone plan do you have, what's it called, unlimited internet you already mentiond but what else does it include?
How did you sign up for Mopera, online or in the store with the clerk?
On your iPhone, what is the APN settings, did you use a user name and password in the iPhone setting also?
Did you have to put your Docomo sim in the iPhone and visit "start.Mopera.net" to get things going?
You mentioned you got your iPhone working but never provided the specifics. If you can help us by stating what you did and or signed up for at Docomo that would be helpful.
The reason I ask is, I am really thinking of dropping my Blackberry plan with them and just getting a regular phone and unlimited internet plan, but what plan or plans and which phone or sim cards are the questions. And once I do that, I'm going to pop the sim in my iPhone and use that instead.
@Andy, (small update)
Well I have not signed up for Mopera just yet. I did however (without WiFi on) put my Foma sim into the iPhone, set the APN to the 0120.xxxxx you recommended, opened the browser and then went to "start.mopera.net", and what do you know, it actually brings me there. Now there is an area you enter your 4 digit PIN, I entered what was on my original copy of my contract, however this didn't work.
Now, there are two possible reasons for this; one is the fact that I have to sign up for Mopera U and establish a 4 digit PIN? Or maybe it's the original PIN I set up when signing up for Docomo, but do I have to sign up for Mopera U?
Or the second reason is, I simply forgot my "new" PIN, as I vaguely remember a time when I may have changed it due to my wife, she lost her phone, we went to the Docomo store to file a claim for insurance she had on it, and at this point I may have changed my PIN because I didn't remember it.
Two things I need to do, one is visit the store and change my PIN, and also sign up for Mopera U.
Bottom line is this though, if what Ron is saying is good to go, I quite honestly would rather run that direction as it is cheaper at this point than what I am paying now. And seems to be a fresh start too. All we need now is for Ron to spill the beans and give us the inside scoop as to what he did. Details are important as this process is completely vague, even more so for us non-Japanese reading or speaking individuals. I tried to go through the Mopera site to start up, and I couldn't understand a damn thing. (I know you're thinking, why not ask my wife, she reads Japanese? Well she isn't Japanese, and she gets very easly frustrated trying to explain this stuff to me. She can read the basics, but the technical stuff is hard for her to translate. So I am at a stand still right now.
Heck I even tried to run through the "mydocomo", and that was useless too, even with google translation.
