iPhone is behind the times

My iPhone is currently been sent away to get replaced (ringer switch fell off) and so I am now using my previous phone. A sony ericsson K810i and what can I say. Apart from the lack of graphical games it can do everything the iphone can do and a bit more. I can run backgroud processes and I can have custom wallpapers, I can have custom SMS tones and the signal strength is pretty constant and I don't get call drops. Today my mum's iphone had 1 bar of edge and my phone had 5 bars of 3G. What is going on?

Anyway that is pretty much a list of what is wrong with the iPhone and makes up the a lot of my wish list.
 
My K810i has been sitting in my junk drawer for the last two years. I hope I never have reason to take it out and actually switch it on. :eek:
 
Sounds like you're talking more about what Apple has locked down on the phone and not necessarily what the phone can't do. Once jailbroken, the iPhone can do almost all of those things.

I've only had a few AT&T phones in my day, but it seems the iPhone has been one of the better ones in term of signal strength. Don't know what to say to that point.
 
can your SE phone easily vnc into your home computer anywhere you are in the world? easily access home ftp servers? be used as keyboard/mouse/media center remote while at home? stream your entire music library to you anywhere you are in the world? etc......no.

The moment someone goes "Yes, my SE (or Sammy i780) can do that", you go "well, I said easily, and I know that phone, it's not easy".

Isn't that the gist of it?

Btw, I have a _real_ remote for my media needs. :p
 
None of that stuff bothered me with the iPhone. I don't get why people would want a wallpaper on it either. How can you see it with the app icons in the way? I think it would be pointless. I thought about jailbreaking mine, but I don't want anything that jailbreaking would offer. I am happy with the iPhone and I don't have any issues if people like to jailbreak.
 
The only complain I have 'against' the iPhone is the battery. Other than that, I just love the phone, and it's by far the best phone I've ever owned.
 
The ONLY thing I hate about the iPhone is the battery life. Through jailbraking, it can do pretty much everything.
 
That's the tradeoff between Jailbreaking or keeping it Au Natural. If you jailbreak you jeopardize the experience Apple wants you to have, if you keep it Au Natural you miss out on some things. Things that don't really matter in my opinion, but things none the less.

If most people get the 3GS and jailbreak, you won't notice any speed difference. But with the 3G iPhone, you will.

Enough said really ;)

I mean you'd rather a phone that doesn't run games, but would rather have wallpaper, background processes and sms tones? Seriously.. why get an iphone then?

the signal strength is pretty constant and I don't get call drops. - never had problems with signal except in my flat which is just a blackspot, my wm6, or g1 can't get a signal either.

yeah really

when is apple going to get with it I want my coffee warmer App and my cook my dinner app. of course the toilet paper option is much waited for, at the end of the day if it's not doing what you want it to do then get something else. I think the fact that 2G Iphones are still getting $200-$300 bucks on ebay says how far behind the times they are.

People will always find something to complain about.
 
Dropped calls and signal strength is not a phone thing, it's in relation to where YOU are. Back at home in Yorktown, Virginia I have max 3G speeds everywhere, even in the closet or the bathroom. Everywhere. Here now, in the Shenandoah Valley, I have great signal strength, but not 3G. If you down a hill you might lose signal, it just depends on where YOU are. It has nothing to do with the phone.

I seriously think that the mods need to merge this thread with TheSpaz's thread about leaving the iPhone. Just sayin'.

Didn't I say that it can't be a phone thing seen as the iPhone got 1 bar of edge and my phone (on the same network, SIM card out my iPhone) got 5 bars 3G exact same location, phone side by side. How is it not a phone thing?

If jailbreak is the answer, how come with other phones you don't have to jailbreak to get proper and full functionality?

Look I am not saying that I hate the iPhone I will jump straight back to using my iPhone as soon as I get my replacement, I was just commenting on how it is lacking a few features.

Push is good for some apps, but what about an internet radio app? It can't push me sounds constantly so I would want to run that in the background, I'd also want to run trapster in the background while driving so I know where the speed traps are.

for that one! :p I find those threads amusing BTW I had a Kaiser cellphone before this and was on the XDA-developers forum Windows Mobile version of Mac Rumors. when I decided to go to the Iphone. I sold my Kaiser and quit the forum Figured there was no need to share that I was going to there dark side. :rolleyes:

I see that Apple can come out with any old rubbish and their users will eat it up.

Multitasking is infinitely better than the kludge that is "push", unless you are trying to use it to run every application you have installed at the same time. On any other phone you could leave a GPS application (for example) open while you surf. Can't do that with the iPhone, so you have to wait for the GPS application to reload and sort itself out.

As for the battery life thing, it doesn't seem to hurt my non-iPhones' life that much, WiFi and Bluetooth do that (so why did Apple include things like a screen, cellular radio, WiFI, Bluetooth etc - they just waste battery life). Still, you can always change your iPhones' battery when it runs out or replace it with a higher capacity one. Oh, wait...
