iPhone is full of inconsistencies

It makes me wonder if the people at Apple that design the iPhone actually even use the iPhone.

Don't think that's necessarily true. You can configure swipe options in Mail settings. In my case, swiping right in Mail reveals the unread button and swiping left gets a bunch of options including flag/trash/archive.

Apple has grown in leaps and bounds during the past few years to the point you now have disparate groups doing their own thing with nary a nod to the others. It also seems management is sorely lacking or simply disinterested in creating a truly cohesive experience for the user. It all started innocently enough with the release of iOS 7 and its plethora of inconsistent icons and has gone downhill since. There just doesn't seem to be an overriding single vision anymore or if there is it simply isn't very good.

You're quite right.

In addition, Apple is hyper focused on high gross profits. That in combination with the knowledge of just how much their Devotees will put up with, leads them to procrastinate on quality and adapt the "just ship it" mentality.

I think that there is likely also a price difference in the device that the Chinese government is pushing when compared to Apple. I ma betting if the price was the same more would pick the Apple product.

I'm curious how you and others who post about Apple's financial success as a defence to shoddy products and/or poor user experience explain Microsoft during the 90s and 00s.

I am simply going off of their stock performance and I have made a butt load of money with Apple. That is the bottom line for me. Excuse me for looking for profit. Every time a new product is introduced there are always those who are unhappy. The people who visit here is tiny compared to the entire user population. Users who do not visit here have no idea that if you hold your phone just right and the perfect lighting you can see diagonal lines on the screen.

The majority of the users just use and enjoy their device with out trying to pick it to death.

iOS 10 is a nightmare. I find myself pawing at it desperately hoping I'll get some recognizable result. I think losing the ability to swipe to log in has me most frustrated. I know it's not rocket science but I'm fighting muscle memory here. Oddly enough I picked up the ability to navigate Android Marshmallow and Touchwiz almost immediately.

But I'm getting lost in my own home turf. I've loved iOS for so many years. But it's gotten quirkier.

iMessage is feature rich now but I miss the simplicity we just left behind. It was somewhat elegant and now it feels a bit cluttered.

I have heard the same arguments every time Apple introduces new software or hardware. They can not make everyone happy. "Apple has lost it way" is a recurring theme.

I may not like all the things that Apple does but I defend their business model all the way to the bank!

I think this is probably closer to the truth, then perhaps saying they're just growing so fast.

Well, I can rephrase it to: The iPhone lacks constancy.

I just upgraded to iOS 10, and the default look of the clock app is black, and I hate it. I'm trying to change that, so it looks like the other delivered stock apps

Well I agree with the clock theme remark and can't understand that choice either. It's bothersome day and night; should be tied to night shift clock.

I was hoping it was, as I normally set my alarm at night, but I just looked at it, and boom, its still black. Not liking the look.

It is kinda like the new iOS was worked on by individual groups and each came up with their own changes. They just did not collaborate with each other when it was all put back together.

"All In" with your firm, immediate, unquestioned support of everything Apple, emboldens the Cupertino Company to continue it's practice of employing great hypocrisy.

Say one thing: "we do it for our customers"
Do whatever Apple wants to insure sky high margins. Then sit back and enjoy reading MacRumors Devotees bragging about how much money Apple makes... Just as though it was their own.

It's very revealing... How many live vicariously through Apple.
