For the sake of the poll, please disregard the notch and assume the bezels don’t exist. This is regarding screen size only. And please disregard possible future major changes in form factor (ie. folding phones).

I’m curious to see if we’ve met our cap for screen size demand in the current form factor, at least in these forums. Thanks. Comments welcome.

Also if you want a bigger screen, please specify size if known.

I have a 7 Plus now and I'm waiting for an Xs Max to come in. I love having a big screen on my phone, but I feel like for a phone to be used as a phone typically is, being carried around in a pocket and often at times held in one hand its just unable to get any bigger. I also don't think theres any need for a phone screen to get even bigger at this point.

I haven’t used it, so I don’t know.

A complicating factor is that the Max, afaik, doesn’t display any more content than the Xs. It just displays the same stuff bigger.

I've seen that in some Apple apps, like mail, it will have a dual-pane landscape view like the old plus models. So there is at least that.

I think elements will be the same size between XS and Max. But icons on home screen will have more space between them and you'll get maybe two more lines in apps etc.

What ive seen, here, shows the opposite. Xs and Xs Max have the same amount of content on the screen.

When I got the iPhone 6S Plus and 7, I thought I'd be happy with the size. But after a couple months I just kept thinking, "Now I want MORE." I am pretty stoked for the Max. That being said, the form factor of the Plus/Max phones is probably as big as I want to go. Even if they offer something bigger in the future, I will probably want to stick with a phone in the Plus/Max size. Otherwise, why not just carry a friggin tablet around?

What was the size measurements of the iPad mini. I believe the iPhone should be less than that for sure.

The verge hands on video on yt you'll see there's more space between the icons. Same as 8 and 8 plus

I switched to Android when the 5 was released and was the same. First was a HTC with a 4.7 screen and second a nexus 5 with a 5’ screen. When the 6+ came out with a 5.5’ I went back to Apple. First time since the 6+ was released the I’m excited, and that’s mostly because the screen. But I completely agree, this form factor is the largest sized phone I think I want to deal with.

There is.

Does it show more content on the screen on a Max than a plain Xs? Nothing I’ve seen shows that.

Can't say I've seen a video with the same content on both devices at the same time. But I can't imagine them just making it bigger. The space between the icons confirm they are not just zooming in on the home screen. Doing it any where else would look weird.

i remember reading posts on here before the plus models came out from people wanting a bigger screen and ppl saying "just buy an iPad"

I just don’t know as I haven’t put an XS Max in my hand yet. I do know what attracts me is that it is the same size as my 6S Plus overall, so there isn’t a price to pay for the bigger screen. I don’t think a phone larger than the plus would have to be unwieldy, but I have never had a problem with my phone being too big. It works.

Won’t be when watching videos.

A video is a fixed res. Xs and max have the same aspect ratio, so it will be bigger on Max. You of course won't see more content from a video just because it's bigger. Don't understand your post

The Max will have a wider viewable area when playing a 16:9 video because like you said, they share the strange aspect ratio but the max is larger so the notches don’t mess up the larger screen gain as much. That matters to me as most content seems to be in 16:9, especially TV. It was one reason I decided to go for the Max and not the R as it still would’ve been a step back from the 8+.

Ok, I’ll say it, if the XS Max I ordered is just a larger version of everything compared to the XS I will be.....happy. I have to wear readers now guys and this would be nice for me. Ha.

Yup, I think this is the biggest physical size of a phone we can go. I think the bezels could be reduced, but I really don't see the point. Pretty much though, this is it.
