Arghh, this thread is full of so much misinformation I would not be surprised if the OP smashed up his phone.......
Dustin, here's what you need to do. It will work.
Go to iTunes. Restore your phone to 3.1.3.
Follow this tutorial:

Make sure you point at ipsw for 3.1.2
If RedSn0w freezes at "waiting for reboot", unplug the usb cable and then plug it back in. That should kick it back into life.
