I take it the new iPhone and OS will be out tomorrow. Any word on whether or not they will update the iPad software too? I want to multi-task!

I doubt OS4 will be pushed out to iPhones tomorrow, and besides, they said no OS4 on iPad until fall. But it would be nice if they previewed what 4.0 means for iPad.

It was announced when OS 4.0 was announced that it'd be coming to the iPad in 'fall'.

I'm hoping 4.0 for iPad will have some advanced functionality like screen widgets or something.

…But then again, I'm not sure if widgets are something genuinely useful or something that's cool to try at first but then just gets in the way, like Dashboard widgets.

I'd love widgets, or even something like little "mini apps" you can pull up from the multitasking bar while using another apps. Things like a clock, a calender, or the weather.

iPhone 4(HD, whatever) will come "late June". OS 4.0 is still on beta 4.

I know they will announce the iPhone tomorrow but OS 4.0 is not ready yet.

It couldn't come out fast enough for me. Can't wait for the day when I can listen to Pandora and surf the web at the same time.

Question is though how much will they charge for OS4 on the iPad :)

I can see it being more than the iPod Touch

There'll be a special iPad event in September where they'll announce a new iPad++ with all the features people have been banging on about (camera, more RAM, higher res screen, built-in projector, Core i7 etc.) :p

This announcement will then be followed by a riot.

And one more thing... iPhone OS 4 (for iPad) will actually be Mac OS X 10.7.

You laugh, but I'm honestly expecting a new iPad with a camera this fall. I think they didn't include it because iPOS 4 has the video conferencing framework and it's not ready. I suspect the iPad will be dropped in to the regular iPod cycle and so a refresh this Sept/Oct won't come as much of a shock to me.

It's already been confirmed that the update to OS4 will be free for the iPad.

I have missed that information and not much coming up on a Google. Didn't Apple say previously that it was only free on the iPhone as its a revenue sharing device, unlike the iPod touch (which is the same as the iPad)

if you still have a link to the info could you share please?

I think that they are going to want to rev the iPad separate from the iPod, ie. in Late Winter. Remember Apple markets the iPod refresh as a "Music Event."

More importantly, if there are new iPhones in the Summer, new iPods in the Fall, and new iPads in the late winter there will always be an iPhone OS device either just rev'd or about to be rev'd.

This is just my own speculation.

It's in the EULA for the iPad:

Apple will provide you any iPad OS software updates that it may release from time to time, up to and including the next major iPad OS software release following the version of iPad OS software that originally shipped from Apple on your iPad, for free. For example, if your iPad originally shipped with iPad 3.x software, Apple would provide you with any iPad OS software updates it might release up to and including the iPad 4.x software release. Such updates and releases may not necessarily include all of the new software features that Apple releases for newer iPad models.

It'd be nice if they took the opportunity to announce an interim bugfix update for iPad - especially if it came with one or two little tweaks/goodies.
