It's in the EULA for the iPad:

Thanks for the info :) so by the wording just 4.0 will be free, any major updates after look to be chargeable.

I guess they did it like that as they announced OS4.0 at the same time. Going to "annoy" some iPod users :)

Apple will likely announce the GM seed of the OS 4.0 beta for iPhone/iPod touch today at the keynote, alongside announcing the beta version of the iPad version of iPhone OS 4.0 (beta 1?).

Either that, or the 'GM seed' for iPhone will have iPad compatibility included, however still being in beta with a version type of 'beta 5'.

First part is right. They'll release a GM build today and it'll go public later this week or early next week.

They will not include iPad compatibility in the GM build. What we'll see is iPhone OS 4.0 beta 1 for the iPad sooner than later, maybe even today. It'll be out before the September iPod event.

It couldn't come out fast enough for me. Can't wait for the day when I can listen to Pandora and surf the web at the same time.

Spirit jailbreak gives you multitasking (and much more) with one click. May be worth doing until 4.0 is out.

The main feature I'm looking forward to with 4.0 is folder support. I like the idea of a single page with multiple folders containing similar apps. The "categories" app on jailbroken iphones doesn't really cut it. Native folder support should be a lot better.

Does anyone know when the Titanic is supposed to arrive in NY???
I've been waiting for what seems like years.
