apparently its not even "real" multitasking. meaning the app is running still but cant do anything.

That was the impression I got - so it's not really multitasking, but rather the ability to have multiple applications open, but not active simultaneously?

This approach sounds better to me than multitasking in the normal sense. I would rather save battery and have the same app speed as before. My friend with the Moto Droid always complains about battery life. I assume this is caused by being able to leave applications open in the background. I had this same problem with my Motorola Q before the iPhone. I always had to close apps to free memory.

I hope that this is just an oversight, but did anybody else notice the following on Apple's new page about iPhone OS 4:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/preview-iphone-os/

iPhone OS 4 Compatibility

iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).

Notice that the iPad is missing from the multitasking list. Hopefully they are just making a comment that just applies to the iPhone, but it does worry me a bit. Although I can't imagine them not implementing multitasking on the iPad.

The iPad avail was just shown at the very end. Just to answer the question for iPad owners if they will be able to get the 4.0 update. The whole keynote was geared for the iPhone. I wouldn't read into it that way.

I just want the ability to run an app like Pandora while I am online and be able to run messenger while online as well. That's it. I don't need to have 20 things going at once.

iPad will have a different OS, based on the iPhone OS. My predictions for the WWDC. It simply needs to be done this way.
