Apple used to be the King in this category.... they would support hardware from looong ago.. WAY longer than a typical corporation would. But that all changed when the G5 came out and PPC as of this Friday is officially not even included and never will again with any Mac OS release. I believe all of the iPhones will be phased out (yes the 3G S too) in a matter of short time as Apple releases a newer hardware build based on a completely integrated chipset from companies they have acquired as of late. They still do support their hardware for a fair amount of time, but it's starting to lean towards the 'not fair enough' category (not yet there though)

I don't know why ... but I feel that they will group the iPhone into packs of three. iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs are one "family" - I think the next iPhone will be the first in the a new "family" of products.

Just a guess.
