My favorite was the XS and I would’ve kept it longer but my Face ID stopped working around the time the 13 series released so I did a trade in for 13 Pro instead of getting it fixed

My indestructible 6 has had a few battery and screen replacements over the years (and a home button), but is still my daily phone even now in 2026. I call it my dumb smartphone. I can make calls, send messages, play music, store photos/videos, etc, but banking and any form of social media is a thing of the past for this thing – I'm not worried. I have an android phone that stays in my office for all that good stuff, and just take my old 6 with me wherever I go. There is freedom in limitation.

4S black, 6+ black, 7+ black, 11PM space gray, 14PM gold, 17PM blue.

A 3 Year upgrade cycle suits me, if you keep the phone in good condition I think it is the sweet spot for trade in value.

The 4S is still my favourite iPhone. The 11PM felt like the biggest upgrade from my previous phone.

iPhone (first gen), 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6, SE(2016), 6S (briefly), bought another SE(2016), 7+, X, 12 mini, 14 Pro, Air.

I had a lot of them, and used to be a yearly upgrader. The 4(? Maybe 4S) had a special place in my heart because I got it a day before release date, I remember walking by my local Apple Store and recording the long line with it.

I’d have to say the years with the 5, 5S and SE have been the most memorable and my favorite iPhone style.

Re:favorite(s)… it’s hard to say, they’re pretty similar. Possibly this 13 Mini except I miss Touch ID. iPhone 7 was a nice slim size in retrospect, while at the time it seemed big. Here’s hoping they make another SE someday, if not a mini.

Favourites:
5s - I know phone size is a hot potato subject these days, but I remember how amazing it was to get that extra row of icons. It felt enormous when I first started using it. Surely phones will never get bigger than this! 😂
XS Max - Similar to the 5s, jumping from an 8 to this felt insane. Loved it. Also, this handset was perfect for those people who get incredibly anal about battery health. Thanks to what I assume is a software glitch, it still happily reports 100% BH today, five years later.
Air - Another hot potato, I guess. 😅 But I love it. Also, IMVHO, the best looking iPhone since the X/XS era, and in Space Black, the spiritual successor to the best-looking iPhone ever, the black/slate iPhone 5 that looked like Darth Vader's daily driver.

Of these iphones the Air is easily my favorite, the 16 Pro is easily my most hated (and thus why I didn't keep it very long).
 
After a few Android phones - I'm on Verizon (no signal on AT&T and T-Mobile where I live), so I couldn't use the first few.

I also have an iPhone 16e as a backup phone - I always keep my old phone as a backup, but my son needed something new last year so I have him the 13 Pro, with a replaced battery, and bought the 16e as a backup.

My current phone is always my favorite - they always get better.

You may guess I love small phones. The 2020 - 2022 period was a mess, I gave the SE 2020 to my mom when I had the opportunity to buy the 12 mini at a great price, and I sold the latter when I ended up getting the 13 mini just after the release of the 14 series.
I'd highlight the iPhone 17, but it's way too early for that as I just bought it a few weeks ago.
