Serious? That's ****ing expensive! Pardon my language. Isn't that even more than the iPhone?

Basically, I want somethign that I can use to browse the web wirelessly when I'm at a coffee shop or something. I want to check email, news, maybe chat on MSN a bit. I want a big bright screen and long battery life, but I really don't need anything else. It doens't need to be a phone or a music player or anything. I just wanna browse the web for cheap!!!

Really my most inexpensive option is a PSP. It has Wi-Fi and a really really nice screen but the navigation blows donkey goats.

I was actually thinking of getting an iPhone to replace my phone and serve this purpose, but then, it's kind of an extravagant solution for me.

[Edit]: Maybe when I go to college I'll get a nerdy engineering student to make one for me :D

And before anyone comes in and screams "IPHONE RIPOFF!!!!" which seems to happen any time a competitor announces a cell phone, this is based off the HTC Elf which was announced back in 2006.

Mobileburn.com has video footage of the Touch.

What I love about these so-called reviews is that no-one EVER demonstrates how to text or compose email using just their fingers. Only person I've seen do this is Steve at the Keynote speech when he first showcased the iPhone.

Prada phone is another example, plenty of videos but nothing practical to take note from. Strangely enough, the Prada fell on it's ar$e when reviewers finally tried to text in real world scenarios (ie on the move with a clunky interface)

Note that the HTC is being sold with a stylus also.

It seems quite clunky and nowhere near as smooth as the iPhone.
Notice when the 3D transition operates, no user-added content (such as the pictures) display. They're reloaded.

Looks quite interesting - but again it's GSM-only not 3G... and it runs Windows Mobile.

I like it...I LOVE the iPhone...but I don't want the size and price of the iPhone...if its got a good price, I may consider it :)

If this is like the the other keyboardless HTC phones it going to a good device that will later be overshadowed by a similar model with a slide out keyboard.

The guy handled the iPhone question perfectly - I can't comment, let me tell you about MY product instead. No better way to do it.

The UI looked a little glitchy. I didn't quite understand what was happening when he was flipping through those panels - why were those specific functions coming up? Sounds like I'd still need to remember what was in what panel, and how to get to that panel. With iPhone, you really only need to remember two buttons - sleep/wake, and Home. The rest is right there in front of you to see and read.

Scrolling looked a tad jerky on the Touch. No "smart zoom." We really saw very few features, so who knows if it's any good.

Thanks for sharing.

While that's the best imitator I've seen to date, it's still that...an imitator. I laugh at these imitation phones because they look as desperate as vista trying to imitate Mac OS X. But it's cute. It just makes me want the iPhone more. :apple:

I recomend you read the post above you. I quoted the key post below just so you do not have to waste you time looking for it.

Ya, just what I would want ... a Windows Mobile phone. Sorry, but I have not owned, nor will I ever own a Windows Mobile phone. I would rather squeeze my head in a vice until it popped like a grapefruit.

Maybe because WM has a large 3rd party base. And if you are a doctor or pharmacist WM can come in handy as I have seen my Dr. and his trainees use WM to check up on new medication and ailments instead of walking to another room and looking it up on a computer.

Imitator? You're talking about the iPhone, right? Read my damn post, this phone was originally announced in 2006.

And Windows Mobile, unlike its PC counterpart, is awesome.

A product that is only getting a little press because it kinda of sorta looks like the iPhone will never have any noteworthy success. A year from now it and all other iPhone like devices that will come out are all going to be lost in the ripple effect of the iPhone.

As far as I'm aware, iPhone runs Tiger (or a cut down version of it)

I applaud HTC actually for producing this, a brave move given the iPhone's marketing presence. Innovation deserves attention, no matter who was 'first'.

I hope this spurs other manufacturers to produce something different, I'm getting bored of seeing sliding keypads and stylii as methods of input. I used to own a SE P910i, great phone if you're stationary, horrendous if you're on the move. The keyword is 'mobile' phone.......
