i'm by all means an 'apple fanboy' by definition, but you guys, on both sides, are hilarious. we're talking about phones here. no need to get so worked up about it.

there is a reason because when companies brainwash and steal people's hard earned cash its WRONG.

you should have the choice of what phone you want to use on which networks because its YOUR OWN money, why should people be told where to spend their money? ATT and apple are screwing you over by forcing you into a contract and forcing you to pay for manditory plans (voice, data, etc)

Its no different than what CDMA carriers do, granted they dont force you to get their data plan the concept is still the same.

If you purchase a Treo from Verizon, you are forced to get a data plan. I don't see why everyone is so up in arms about this, almost every carrier does this with smartphones.

Hell, get a Blackberry ... with any carrier, they force you to pay the data plan. Thats not even enforced by the carrier, iirc its a charge handed down from RIM.

Also, HTC is marketing the TOUCH in Europe, Asia and the US while the iPhone is only going to be marketed in the US. On top of that HTC already has 50% market share in Europe, 30 in the US and 20 in Asia. So as far as everyone saying the iPhone will blow away competition--yeah it might in the special olympics category of technology. It all just marketing hype to steal your money. I bought the iPod that could play video when it came out over a year ago, and I just now watched a video on it today. Was it worth being one of the first owners?

I'm smoking what's printed in the news.

"HTC, the global market leader for Windows-based mobile devices"

http://es.theinquirer.net/2007/06/08/htc_presenta_su_propio_iphone.html
"En estos momento, el Viejo Continente aporta entre el 40% y el 50% de los ingresos de la compañía; EE UU en torno al 30%, mientras Asia representa menos del 20%."

Sorry the second is in Spanish but that was my original source. Let me know if you want a translation.

I can translate that. It says that 50% of HTCs revenues come from Europe. Quite a different thing than having market share at 50%.

Windows mobile has 5.6% market among smartphone category, about 10% of mobile phones sold are smartphones. If HTC makes all WM phones (it probably doesn't), it has 0.56% market share, not 50%. (source: the wikipedia article linked earlier)

The iPhone is expected to be sold 10m between it's release and end of 2008. Intrestingly, because there will be about 2b mobile phones sold from now till end of 2008, this would mean that iPhone gets about same market share with its first model than MS has achieved in five years (and five iterations of it's mobile OS).

T-Mobile does not force the data plan with BlackBerries. You can still use it, you just get phone and text. No e-mail or internet.

LMFAO, your comparing a bottom end HTC phone with a high end PDA phone? (yes the iPhone is in the range of the highest end PDA phones because of the price bracket) you want to compare phone to phone?

What I am saying is he is not a good CEO (or whatever) if he has not seen the iPhone. He is in the market that the iPhone is taking by storm. Even if they are in different areas of the market he should still know about it to counter any negative (or positive) effects on his business.

To say he hasnt seen it means he really hasnt seen it which in my view he is not doing his job properly and should be fired. Or, he has seen it and see's as competition for his phone and so does not want to talk about it. If his phone was better, he would want to talk about it.

I still think the Touch looks pretty cool. Sure, it's no iPhone, but that's some pretty good innovation on HTC's part. I mean, nobody else has done that kind of thing with WM.

I am sorry that one is not true me and my sister and her friend all have treos with out a data plan and they did not force it on us. I heard its different for BB though.
